Got my sempron to 2.0 GHZ (whew)

Thread Starter
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone (espesially The Duke) that answered all of my questions. My Sempron is running just over 2ghz and will prime all night. I never thought I would ever read an entire BIOS manual. Now I am off to learn more about memory timings.

Ok, let's set a goal. You can do it!

Haha that was *not* stable...just me having fun with my hardware. This is a more practical goal (in this ballpark, that is. I don't know if that winchester will make it. It's an old core): 24/7 Stable

If you have any questions, ask...you know the drill, apparently: Read, OC, Read, Buy stuff, OC, Buy stuff...lol

OK...

You said to ask questions, so here I go. Below is a quote from the bios manual. Deals with not being able to boot after a clock/voltage change.

"CPU CLOCK
This item allows you to select CPU Clock, and CPU over clocking
Special Notice:
If unfortunately, the system’s frequency that you are selected is not
functioning, there are two methods of booting-up the system.
Method 1:
Clear the COMS data by setting the JCOMS1 ((2-3) closed)) as “ON”
status. All the CMOS data will be loaded as defaults setting.
Method 2:
Press the <Insert> key and Power button simultaneously, after that
keep-on pressing the <Insert> key until the power-on screen showed.
This action will boot-up the system according to FSB of the processor.
It’s strongly recommended to set CPU Vcore and clock in default setting. If the
CPU Vcore and clock are not in default setting, it may cause CPU or M/B damage."

I have been plagued by the bios resetting to default as I have tried to work my way up in clock speed. I am beyond where I was able to go by using the <insert> key when rebooting. Temp is 20C and it is running prime 95 with no errors.

Does anyone know what the insert key disables or ignores? If there is a feature I could disable instead of using the insert key I would like to do that instead.

Thanks

Funny you should say that....

I just ran out of room on the FSB (limited to 232MHZ). Gotta let it PRIME 95 overnight, but I think I ran out of motherboard before anything else. Good thing there is a good power supply and opty sitting here. I thought I would be waiting on a new project a bit longer than this.

Time to surf mobos and cases.

A Opty you say Whether it be a 949 or 940, a good and inexpensive MB made by Biostar... TForce 6100-939 or TForce 6100 AM2 are good OCers.
The 939 series has run over 300MHz on the CPU bus for some members. Once I get off my but and start working on my TF 939 I'll know more about them, that which will replace the EP-9NDA for folding . Make sure it's the "TForge" and not the "GForce".
There are other fine MB out there, those two are not SLI capable but still very good and inexpensive, about $70-75.

The opty arrived yesterday as did my ebay turbo cool PSU. I think I even managed a good stepping (CCBBE 0610DPMW). Thats what got me to thinking a new mobo would be needed. A 232 FSB is not going to push very hard on the opty. What is the general opinion on the heatsink/fan AMD ships with the processor?

For right now I am pleased to have learned enough about my bios settings that I can run the FSB up without the bios resetting. Now I am going to work on the memory and see where I can push it to.

Best stepping out there, expect some massive overclocks, i see 3.0 in your future if you get a nice board.
