wow. i waited for like 6 months. and now it doesnt even overclock that well. yes, it doesnt need to coz its better than SB clock for clock. but still. its alwys nice too see big numbers. :/

To me is reads that it is their opinion is that 85C is OK for ivy 24/7, with no source to back that up and only 1weeks? worth of testing. Thats very different to someone doing a series of destructive higher temp testing, and regressing back to 85C being OK for 24/7. I'd suggest that would have about 2 months minimum and many chips.

If we are not careful 85C will be the gospel truth in a matter of weeks and no-one will know that the source was someone 'just saying'

Unfortunately, I think you'll still get bad temps with the MORA3. OP is benching with dual HWLabs GTX 360 and he's getting delta+65ºC... I don't think greater radiator surface area is going to change things.
Problem is CPU not spreading well the heat to the IHS (due to die shrink and 3D transistors), and that has nothing to do with radiator surface area.

Imo, we are stuck to 4.5 and 1.2-1.25v if we wanna have decent temps.

Yep this is on short what i said. It's important to know that the 10c temp is in fact water temp, the temp of the block is unknown for me, but i can see if i can put a small temp sensor on the side of the copper of the block to see what the temp is there (that or a IR gun)

When i did the LN2 runs last night, we saw ~80C difference between the pot and the sensors in the chip, The sensors would not start working (stuck @ 0c) before the pot was down to around -70C, that was with ~1.7v if i don't recall correct, (MyDog could possibly correct me here if i recall wrong, i was doing the LN2 runs with him)

+1, exactly, rads are irrelevant for delta core to IHS. At 1.35 vcore 4.8 HT on, Eggy has ~65C delta from core temps to water temp, then that means at 22C ambient, assuming 0C delta air to water with non-real perfect radiator that kept water temp at ambient, the core temps would be 87C. No rad can get better than 87C under those conditions.

Delta air to water will be ~5C with 4x120 rad. So core temps would be 87C + 5C or 92C at 22C ambient.

With 9x120 rads and powerful fans, even if you get to 2C delta air to water, core temps will be 89C. Again, cant get better than 87C, unless you get better tim, better waterblock, lower vcore needing cpu, etc.

Firstly ++REP to the OP.thumb.gif

Cheers muchly for going through all this, I've been reading and reading on IB and this post is what the people who are in the market for a "K" chip should read (after all if you want a K, you want to push it right?). Kudos for the fine testing.

I've found conflicting points of view here at guru3d and here at expert reviews, 4.9ghz on air (unspecified noctua, prob a NH-D14 Id guess) @ 1.392v and 4.3ghz on the intel stock cooler @ unspecified voltage respectively. The guru3d shows a max core temp of 89°c on core#2 but judging by their prime window .. ..after 6 mins only.

After reading this thread, these other reviews baffle me and I am again having trouble making sense of it all. Others have been moaning about a downgrade (although only in the context of this forum i.e. overclockability) and I think the smart person will wait - more data points needed. But all the CPU-Zs I've seen for the IB's show TPD 77W whilst the boxes are 95W if I am not mistaken. What is it actually ?

Maybe I've got the wrong end of the stick here but a good read this thread, will look out for more testing in the upcoming weeks.smile.gif

XOR

Edit: Just found this at Anandtech and it tends to agree with this thread - 77°C at 3.3ghz 1.25v - ouch!

Snow job?
Ivy Bridge sells with 95W TDP, but uses a maximum of 77W
