I am aware, but they are the exact same chip, the chip is not built differently for chips with HT and those without. I don't have the numbers for the Ivys, but the 2600K has 1160M transistors and the 2500K has 1160M transistors, therefore, they are the exact same chip, with the same amount of cache and the same HT capabilites, with modifications to disable cache and HT when packaged.

So same surface area then, ah well thats one theory out of the window regarding the variations we are seeing.

I think at this stage the variations are down to the fact that this is very new technology and as such Intel hasn't worked out how to make the product as consistently as we are used to at this point in time. I think in future you will see a much greater consistency in these chips.

The 6x120 GTX is able to keep it to ~4c air vs water, and the water temp only rises with ~2c during load. But it looks like the chip is slowly building up heat. With the 3770K's and HT @ 1.35v i got temps in the mid 50's after 5min, 10min was high 60's, 20min low 70's, and @ 25min it had jumped up to ~77c before i shut it down.
The tests that are showing prime runs on air/water after 5-6 min does not mean a thing. If they have air runs @ 5min with 80C it will for sure hit TjMax after 30min.

That would explain a few things indeed.

somebody is lying to the point i'm confused here. this is goin too far from my understanding and simple English knowledges.

What stood out to me was the lack of major performance gains in certain areas when overclocking. Super high temps when OC don't seem as much a concern when 4.7ghz vs stock yields minimal gains. Someone oriented to gaming and general use may not consider the 98c load temps worth an extra 3 fps over stock at 55c.

+ rep, Thats why Im thinking about just getting a 2600k, tempted for a 3770k just to have whats new but my cooling dont think would appriciate that cpu. Too bad I missed out on the microcenter 2600k $199.99 sale about 2 weeks ago. Im watching their site daily now lol

I went in last weekend. They told me that in-store they have deals that they never show online. I got a 2600k+Z77 Pro3 for $360 after taxes. Had a deal going on the 2600k for cheap, and a deal on the board for cheap. And a $50 price cut if you got a CPU+Mobo.

After seeing all this stuff about Ivy, I just said, who cares and went for it. Kind of wish I would have got a 3820+X79 for like $400 after taxes, then got a 8 Core when Ivy-E comes out.

Man thanks for the heads up. What sucks the nearest microcenter is like 20miles away so not close enough to just stick my head in, now frys is 2miles away but they advertise every special. Man thanks for the info though regarding their pricing. Yeah I wouldnt mind a 2011 socket setup but I literally just game and browse the web lol, The extra cost for me is better spent on a new gpu but thats not to say I havent played with the idea of 2011 since I just love building new rigs or changing my setup for the hell of it.

Maybe Micro Center has the quiet deals so that Fry's can't match advertised prices.
