Anyone with any thoughts on peltier assisted cooling, previous the wattage being dissipated was a lot higher, its now low enough to be practical to lower the temp at the IHS, and most air coolers should be able to cope with the CPU + Peltier wattage.

If I had a clampable (as opposed to push pin) HSF would it just be a case of sandwiching it between the ihs and hsf and arranging for a power source?

For running stock settings at low voltage, probably only a few C difference between paste and solder TIM, hence intel can save money by using cheaper paste. But at overclock settings and higher tdp, going to make a significant difference in core temps, sucks for overclockers, but intel doesnt design chips for us.
I guess only the more expensive enthusiast cpus are now getting solder tim (assuming they are)...kinda sucks for overclocking. Wonder if they use paste/solder for xeons...though probably same paste for same corresponding xeon, but when they come out, maybe will see.

I may go Indigo Xtreme this time around (hope i won't get pizzed ..lol it's a pin in the rear to apply)

Cannot believe they didn't mount it and test it... mad.gif

Anyway, my Q6600 had that. Not sure this is the end of the story.

wow! Im surprised thats the case lol. I havent taken any cpu's apart but if a bad paste job between the lid and the cooler can effect temps between a few celcius, imagine the chip going through TIM twice before getting to the cooler!

Was reading this ---> http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2012/04/23/intel-core-i7-3770k-review/9

Says the (or their) 3570K is a better overclocker than their 3770K. Also outperforms it due to higher overclocked speeds.... Silicon lottery? or is this a trend?

Hmm. This could explain some things. What if some of the review chips have TIM, and some are soldered? What if Eggy's chip wasn't a dud, and it just had the TIM like the engineering samples (the chip overclockers.net reviewed was an engineering sample). Hmmmm...... There have been alot of inconsistencies in the data I've been seeing, perhaps this is why?
