Hi,
I just bought a CM Hyper 212 evo to substitute for my stock heatsink that came with the processor. When I installed it I get some text saying 'CPU Fan Error, Press F1 for setup'. I don't know whether I've installed the cooler wrong, although I am fairly sure I haven't, or if there is some compatibility issues... Can someone help?! The processor is an i7 2700k if that helps

That error means that your motherboard either doesn't detect your cpu fan or that the fan has failed. Check and make sure you have your cpu fan connected to the right fan header on you mb.
There is one that's labelled CPU_FAN and one labelled CPU_FAN_OPT.. I assume the CPU_FAN slot is the main one, and that's where I plugged the header in.
hmmm do you possibly have any other fans that you can plug into that slot temporarily? Also is this a new build or was the stock heatsink/fan on there before this?
Yes I bought Hyper 212 evo with the pc, but I got the same error, so I assume it was faulty, so I sent it back and got a new one. I have the stock heatsink, but it's loud and annoying
I bought all the parts and built it myself just over a week ago.
You should be fine as long as the CPU fan is actually spinning. If the fan should die, you wouldn't have any immediate indicator that it had done so, and your PC might start overheating and shutting down unexpectedly thanks to reaching the TJ Max.
If you can confirm that the problem goes away when you plug a different fan into the same CPU Fan header, then you have isolated the problem to the fan itself.
hmmmmm that is strange..... so the intel fan worked with no issues but you have now had 2 different 212 evo fans do this? are you doing a push pull config or using a single fan?
Its 4 pin, and I put the fan on the other side of the cooler to what it came like out of the box as the memory got in the way of the fan, but seeing as you can put dual fans on, I didn't think it would make much difference..
Are you upgrading a pre-built machine? When I replaced the case of a Dell computer several years ago in order to get a third party heatsink installed, I'd always get a screen before boot indicating that the front panel components changed, and I would have to press F1 to continue booting.
I suppose it is sort of upgrading.. It was originally supposed to be installed initially, but I got the error, so sent it back and used a stock heatsink till I got a new one
do you have the option of disabling PWM monitoring in your bios? If so try turning that off and see if that helps. If there is no option you could try pulling the 4th wire (pwm monitoring only) and the fan would still work as a 3 pin and the error may go away.
