[ROG] New soundcard released: ROG Xonar Phoebus - Page 16

I'll repeat this one more time:

If does not have EAX5.0...    then it is not meant for gamers, period!

As it uses all soldered op-amps and has no need to the PCI/PCI Express bridge chip, I'm guessing it's cheaper to manufacturer then the STX.

Counting on these two posts.
$120-140 ok, a little below the STX price. But $30 above the STX? Wow.
Maybe they'll sell the card only at some point also.

Ok so what pci express sound card supports eax 5.0? Wait what new game supports Eax 5.0? It's dead put a fork in it and move on. It's like someone crying for physx it's just not relevant anymore.

EAX5 hasnt been used for almost 2 years, EFX is what been used instead. I used to thought unreal engine 3 used EAX5 but turns out it never did, instead it was using EFX which what creative is pushing now. EFX can do all what EAX5 can do but its open source.

To go that a sound card is not meant for games because it doesn't support EAX5 which isnt being used any more is closed minded. Sound cards dont have to support creative standards to be a gaming card, they just have to have features that a gamer would use. Asus sound cards do have EAX 5 emulation but that is for legacy games. Such as games that had EAX5 before the move to EFX.

Any openAL game that came out or coming out will either use EFX, or just openal if they doesn't use there own form of sound api.

You can repeat your post til your blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that EFX is what being used instead of EAX and that creative that creative was the one who pushed EFX.

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?14887-Problems-with-new-Xonar-Phoebus/page2

FYI- BF3 freezes and sound goes into an infinite loop. Yay! Lol. I've done some research and it doesn't look like a "new" issue. BF3/PB just doesnt play nice with sound cards. When I disable the Phoebus and use my old USB headset setup it works fine like it did before.

For testing purposes I fired up Dragon Age and Mass Effect. No issues. Gonna test it out with Diablo 3 sometime Wed.

Hope the guys over at ASUS can figure something out. They have recreated the problem and are looking into it now.

Things I've don't to troubleshoot that did not work
-GX disabled (never had it enabled)
-Tried disabling all sound in Device Manager except the Phoebus
-lowered the sample and bit rate (not sure why but worth a shot)
-used a lower gain/headphone combo

If anyone has any experience/suggestions please let me know. If not I'll update whatever ASUS suggests. Sorry if this is the wrong thread to put this info.

My rig...
-i5 2500k OC'd to 4.5GHz
-Asus P8P67 Pro
-G.Skill 8GB ram
-EVGA GTX 580 SLI OC'd to 797MHz
-Crucial 128GB SSD (OS)
- WD Caviar Blue 1TB HDD (storage)
-Silverstone FT01-BW
-BenQ XL2420T monitor
-Nvidia 3D Vision 2
-Logitech G19 and G9x
-Steelseries S&S mousepad
-Asus ROG Xonar Phoebus sound card
-Beyerdynamic DT880 600 Ohm
-Zalman clip mic
-Cooler Master 1000w Silent Pro
-CyberPower 1500PFCLCD 900W
