Ack, that looks like a toy I'd buy at Toys'r'us. Won't buy.

Looks fine to me, has this ROG theme going on, though the "controller" I presume? looks kinda cheap and plasticky

Both are, for a lack of better words, scraping the bottom of the barrel imo.

Visit Asus's or Creative's audio forums, you have users that are beyond frustrated that their cards don't work, the drivers are shoddy etc. At least Creative has cleaned up from the past with their drivers, especially with the TitaniumHD, just as Asus seems to have done a stellar job with the STX range and forgot that they both also have other cards, which is where the modded driver community (for both brands) comes into play.

Both companies have below average (to say the least) communication with their respective customer base, other than the default sort of copy paste responses.

It's really somewhat a shame when you really think about it. Both Asus and Creative are capable of excellent products (Xonar STX and TitaniumHD respectively) yet they just need to clean up their public relations departments.

As for the product at hand, seems tacky and gimmicky, no thank you.

It is crap. Their support that is. I mean the recon3d doesn't even support 4.1 speaker setups. You have to manually disable the center and sub channel at every boot as their driver utility doesn't remember your settings each time!

But the Phoebus looks like it has decent snr better than the Recon3d and is a true pci express card!

I doubt it, because the parts in sound need shielding (Emi) and I doubt lp would have enough space for all the audio stuff.

You mean the control hub? It does look like a toy, but I THINK you can use the Phoebus without it.
