[ROG] New soundcard released: ROG Xonar Phoebus - Page 8

In a perfect world I would buy this and a pair of Astro A40's.I wonder how much of a difference that would be going from onboard sound and a razer carcharias headset. Would my games go from boom to BOOM! would my music go from nice beats to an unrelenting force of crystal clear audio goodness. Would it make the movies I watch that much more engaging to justify such a purchase I think is the question.

Or do these companies that release these products think we will mindlessly buy their products?

It is not a gaming sound card, unless it has EAX5.0...

Creative's X-fi is the defacto standard. Anyone who has problem are the same people who had problem with the now unsupported/defunct Vista.

I have owned 7 sound cards in the last 5 years. The least troublesome (drivers & software) remains CL for me. It is 2012, not 2008.. creative had some stumbling blocks with the new windows stack, those problems are long gone.

Fidelity for gaming or mp3's is a misnomer.. u want something that "just works" with gamming standards.

Now, if your specific listening needs outweigh your gamming needs, then a xonar is great..! But spare us the creative labs driver problems.. those have been cleared up for 4 years.

This might be a high end card for people with 5.1 surronds as STX doesn't support that.

I've tried the Unified drivers and don't notice anything different. Many people recommend them over ASUS drivers but to me they both perform the same.

Ok Audio Editor opinion time:

Quoted dB dynamic range means nothing as all they are quoting is the DAC chip's technical specs. It all depends on the environment it's in and how the well engineered the circuit is.
Would like to see AP measurements of ithis, looks promising, but really, it's all speculation atm, even with the press release. With current information, Asus may actually have a decent compeitior for gaming vs. Creative but all speculation atm.

If they can reduce the output impedance of the TI amp to below 4 ohm, that would be great but I doubt it would happen because the vast majority of gamers don't care / don't know what output impedance is and it's impact on sound quality.
