PC Randomly Shuts Off During RAM Intensive Applications - Page 8

Ok. I guess I have to choose something to blame eventually. But if I spend the money shipping out my GPU when it was actually my motherboard, it's just a waste of time an money.

I think I've ruled out CPU. I've run Prime95 for hours, completed the IntelBurnTest at maximum and it reported stable. Also ran ASUS PC Diagnostics and CPU is stable there as well.

I think I've ruled out RAM. Memtest86+ run on each stick individually with no errors. Prime95 run for hours with lots of RAM testing.

I think I've ruled out PSU. I replaced my old HX750w with the AX850W, voltages are showing stable at 12V fluctuating a maximum of 0.9%. Unless there are other tests for my PSU?

I think I've ruled out SSD. Purchased a new Samsung 830 and reinstalled Windows 7; however, I do have some programs installed on my old SSD that is still in my machine. Would you recommend any SSD testing utilities?

I want to blame the GPU last, so I will try removing it and running with onboard graphics. But if it is the motherboard, how can I test it to rule it out? It seems to be the one thing I can't figure out.

Test onboard. If it doesn't fail, it's the GPU. If it fails, I have absolutely no idea.

Ok... so I removed the 590 and had to install onboard drivers.

First of all, I am amazed at how powerful the onboard graphics are. It can almost run Sims 3 on max (without AA) at the same frame rate as my 590. tongue.gif

But I was having some glitches... no crashing so far. The contrast and colors seems to switch between dark and light:

Not sure if I just have the settings too high or need to reinstall drivers.

How can I test the system with onboard graphics? Also, are there no tests for the motherboard?

Update: Rebooted and closed old Nvidia processes. No screen issues, runs great.

Still not sure how to test onboard graphics, but I guess it was my GPU.

Do you know if they will be able to send me a new GTX 590, or do they not make them anymore?

Update 2: Have been stress testing the whole system as much as I possibly could. I had prime95 running for a while, while running the Sims 3. No crash.

Tried rendering a 1080P movie, while stressing all system components with AIDA64 and photoshop open as well. No crash.

Sent a request for RMA... but maybe I should have waited until after May 5 for the possible 690.

EVGA states on their website:
Quote:
How the EVGA RMA system works:

-You will take care of shipping to EVGA, EVGA will ship it back to you
-When we receive your product, it will take 1-3 business days to process and ship back to you
-Our RMA stock are thoroughly tested recertified parts
If we do not have the same product in our RMA stock, you will receive something of comparable performance or better

It seems that people can't buy GTX 590's from EVGA anymore due to low or no stock of them. I could have received a 690. smile.gif

I don't think they would decline your RMA at this point, but we'll see soon smile.gif

Yeah, this is pretty cut and dried. Good luck with EVGA.

Ok, one more question before I ship my card out.

Is it a possibility that the PCI-E slot on my motherboard is damaged in some way, causing this issue? Because if I have to ship out my perfectly good GTX 590 (which is in perfectly beautiful condition, aesthetically) only to receive a used scratched one... I will be PISSED.

Yes, it could very will be a pci-e slot issue. To rule this out, you'd obviously need to have another board or GPU to test.

My motherboard is the P8Z68-V Pro... would I be able to test the card in the second PCI-E Slot, or would it not work properly?

You sure could, that would eliminate a PCI-E issue.
