if he's only surfing whats the use of an i7, even a cheap sempron can do the job, & dont worry about future proofing, intel miss that word long time ago.

and i appreciate the comments regarding an i3, but what if he plans to game in the future, or ends up gettong into computers and wants to try over clocking. when i say futureproof, i also mean in terms of him wanting to explorer and use the computer in a different way.

i agree an i7 is useless tho as i don't see him needed the HT, so an i5 would be ideal.

Revodrives are PCIe SSDs, they are much faster(2x-4x) than SATA SSDs. For him, a fast SSD is what he wants. I am not a fan of OCZs SSDs, mainly because they run sandforce. I would just recommend getting a crucial m4 or a samsung 830 since those tend to be more reliable.

That's a little more than mid level, than entry level gaming PC, Entry level would be closer to a 7750. Also, I've heard that the 7850 is a better buy than the 560ti too. That is until the rest of the keplers are released biggrin.gif

And for the Mushkin SSD, they are a great company, I am just not fond of sandforce drives. A Crucial M4 or Samsung 830 would be better thumb.gif

The 7850 is a good card but I just feel its too expensive. Also I picked the Sandforce drive due to it being cheap. Crucials and Samsungs are deff better but at a higher price. (I own a Crucial M4)

Fred and Ironman have been preaching the true gospel in this thread, and anything more than what they are suggesting would be unecessary. Heck even waiting for Ivy Bridge considering it's intended usage is a complete waste of time.

If he does want to play games then he needs to decide that before he drops $XXX on a computer.... If he wants a computer that can play games even though he does not plan to play games, go ahead and take the cost X2.

Yes, and if he does decide to game, the HD4000 should be somewhat decent, it is enough to play some basic games on low (I would not test that on BF3, hence why I said basic). A GPU can ALWAYS be added later thumb.gif

Yeah even the integrated graphics on my friends i5 laptop manage to play Starcraft 2 at medium/high settings with very playable frame rates.

Certainly not going to deliver enthusiast level performance, but if they decide to game seriously later only then consider adding a graphics card.(newer faster/cheaper hardware comes out all the time, so buying ahead of time is only going to restrict your potential performance)

A 400W PSU with a decent brand will easily support the addition of a mid/high end graphics card if they are so inclined to add one in the future.
