That machine has a 45nm quadcore. If you put that chip in any laptop it'll get hot. 32nm chips are cooler, especially with the ones with only 2 CPU cores. I have two Asus laptops with i3's and they barely get warm. 45nm quadcore was never a good idea for laptops except for users who absolutey needed the performance.

i bought a G1S (gaming series) a few years ago, and now i just updated to the more recent G53J. the G1S ran a little hot, but i never experienced any shutdown due to heat.

the G53J has a new cooling design and is quite silent, even while gaming. and i can run most games on MAX (GTX 460m)

i can't talk for their other series, but the Gaming Series has been pretty good to me.
