Better performance by a decent 15-20% margin, with air OC's getting to 1420mhz.
Less noise
Less power
Better drivers
More features
Drop that 7970 down to 400$ to stay competitive, AMD.

Where are you getting these numbers from?

A bit unfair comparison, 7970 on steroids vs reference pcb 680 with TF cooler. 680 lightning when it comes out would obviously OC better than reference.

I'd have to concur on this.

I'd also like to speculate that the 670Ti and the 670 might come out lower competitive pricing than previously expected in response. For those who might comment otherwise - we've already been surprised with current 680 pricing coming in lower than the 7970. I wouldn't be surprised if they did come down on a matching level of price even with the 680. Those who disbelieved prior to 680 launch that the 680 would be priced lower than the 7970 we all dead wrong. I recall a lot of nay sayers.

Let the price wars begin. AMD's pricing reign was short lived but they did enjoy 3 months of undisputed sales. Now it's time for the consumers to win.

It "8870" will be a properly priced revision of Tahiti. I'll wait until it hits the market late this year, or perhaps I'll go for a 8970/780. This generation has been a disappointment thus far, for me.

I agree. Only the 680 comes close to impressing me when compared to the last generation, and that's a midrange part converted to a $500 first-tier card. GPU prices are insane right now, and my GTX 460s are still chugging along. I just can't justify paying $500ish for a few more frames.

Need to drop the 7970 to about $400-450 to be competitive with the 680 due to the lack of performance compared to it while only costing $500.

Well, this is good news for me as i am gonna build my new rig soon. Maybe this will help me go for trifire 7950 instead of crossfired 7970. Oh Yeah....biggrin.gif

Not sure if I understood, but 7970 is not playing tricks on users like 680. This makes higher price justified already now, but it's great that it will be lower soon.

Exactly. 7970 is already above 680 in eyefinity setups and if its price is dropped, its christmas in summer for people like me who are planning to build their eyefinity setups soon. tongue.gif
