Ya maybe they both have it. I have my Sony TV hooked up to a sound bar, so never ran into the issue both ways. My receiver is down in the theater room with my projector, and it doesn't do it down there. I have a Denon 1909 AVR.

Audio Return Channel. So if you have a TV with a built in tuner, the audio can go out of the TV into the receiver. It just means you don't need to run an optical out cable from the TV to the receiver as the audio signal gets sent 'upstream' from an HDMI input on the TV to an HDMI output on the receiver.

Lame. Just as I go to play around with settings everyone else wants to watch a movie tongue.gif I think I'm just gonna look at everything mentioning ARC once they're done, and also maybe Anynet+?

From the TV manual:
"■■ Auto Turn Off (No / Yes)
Setting an Anynet+ Device to turn off automatically when the TV is turned off.
- If Auto Turn Off is set to Yes, running external devices will turn off at the same
time as the TV powers off.
- May not be enabled depending on the device."

Sounds like the culprit right there!

Yeah the FM antenna is connected to the back of the receiver. If I turn on the receiver the radio starts playing fine and then a few seconds later the TV also turns on

I know for a fact Anynet+ is causing them to turn on together. (I've got a Samsung TV, as well.) But the fact that you can't turn the TV off individually seems strange to me.

Check the TV's settings for an option to disable it.

I don't think I want it fully disabled though, as I would like both to turn on at the same time. I just want to be able to turn the TV off but keep the receiver on
