Which of these speakers should I get? And will this sub be okay for my HT?

Hey guys,

I'm trying to build up a budget home theatre at the moment. I already have an Onkyo TX-SR309 receiver and just need speakers to finish it off, for now I will be sticking to a 2.0/2.1 setup.

Thanks to the small range of speakers available locally at reasonable prices I've narrowed my list to the following (prices in NZD btw!):

- Mission M64i ($900)
- Wharfedale Diamond 10.4 ($850)
- Kef Q500 ($900)
- Mordaunt Short Carnival 6 ($700)
- Mordaunt Short Carnival 8 ($900)

Which do you guys think I should go for?

As for the sub I am not completely sure I will need one, I will wait until I get the floorstanders home before I decide. But I noticed this one being sold second hand, looks like a bargain to me so would it be all right with whichever of the above speakers I decide on? It has wireless functionality but am I still able to run a RCA cable from the receiver to the sub? It's a Klipsch sub from the CS-700 set if you do not want to click the link

I really wanted to get this set of modded Carnival 8s but they were only available in a wooden finish and my parents only want black speakers to match the rest of the room. The guys at the store said they had added 10kgs of sand to the bottom of the speaker cabinet, and it was pretty amazing how much of a difference it made. How difficult is it to do this? Should it only be done by experts, or can you just chuck a whole lot of dry sand into the base of the speaker and then be blown away by the sound? I must be missing something or I'm sure everyone would be doing it.

Thanks in advance!

Kef is a great brand and makes very neutral speakers that are very popular for HT. If those were your only choices, based on what I've heard I would lean towards the Kef.

After listening for ages in the store I have decided to go for....

Q Acoustic 2050i Floorstanders and a 2000Ci Centre

In my opinion they sounded much better than the above options
