SATA lock while overclocking?

Thread Starter
I use a PATA drive right now and I'm thinking about upgrading to SATA. I read something about FSB speed affecting the SATA bus. Supposedly, some boards have locked SATA but some are unlocked and when FSB goes up too much, your hard drive crashes. I overclock my FSB to about 300MHz usually from 200MHz stock. Does my motherboard have a SATA lock on it?

I know that mobo on particular has all it ports locked, so you can freely go buy one.

Some people say that using a SATA drive can cause the loss of stability when OCing. However I think this is history, as this problem existed with the first mobos that has SATA ports, like I915, I925, nF3 and even those were solved eventualy through a BIOS update.
If you're still worried try to put the HDD on the SATA port that is the farther away from the CPU as possible, but I doubt that nowadays there are many that OC their Optys/Conroes on PATA HDDs, wouldn't you say?

useless anyway, even if you can overclock it.

Single, or even 2x HDD RAID0 will never exceed the bandwidth of a typical PCI bus, in sustained basis due to physical/mechanical limitations.

well it depends, if the sata port is being controlled by for example the nvidia southbridge/northbridge ( i forget which one it is ) then it will not be locked while overclocking, its only the independent sata controllers ( chips or pci cards ) that will be locked.
