H77 multiplier OC?

Thread Starter
Does H77 chipset support the multiplier overclocking of the K CPUs?

Intel site (sort of) says it does - http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/chipset-h77.html "Intel H77 Express Chipset also enables overclocking features of unlocked 3rd generation Intel® Core™ processors."

Anandtech site says it does not - http://www.anandtech.com/show/5626/ivy-bridge-preview-core-i7-3770k/3 (see chipset comparison)

no on H77 you can only OC upto the turbo multipliers, which is like max 39x, and possibly BLCK.

Guess I will test it out soon when my i5-3570k arrives in the mail tongue.gif. According to the intel website it will do ivy bridge, but not sandy.

@bryaneasy: Please test this scenario. It will be very interesting to see overclocking a 3570K on H77 Board.
I can confirm that the H77 chipset does not allow overclock of the i5 3570k or any ivy bridge; why there is conflicting information is beyond me but because of that I ended up with a motherboard I do not want. So stay away from it if you want to overclock. Not a good first impression with intel, but it is partly my fault for not researching more thoroughly. Now off to Frys to get me a sabertooth Z77.

Can you still take it up to the turbo clock on a 2500K? Thinking of picking up a H77 board to use my displaced 2500K and 3.7Ghz would be plenty fast wink.gif I love that ASRock Z77 ITX board, but I'd rather not hack up my Kuhler 620 backplate to make it work... like I did for the h50 on my H55N-USB3 tongue.gif Who knows... I make making purchases difficult for myself.

@vAro I have a i5-3570k and im pretty pissed. I can get the multiplier up to 38 easily. But there is no 39 or higher in the dropdown menu in the Bios.

So up to 38x is no problem on this MOBO. But i think i'll have to buy another one in order to get up to the desired 42x!
Well that is a 3570K not a 3770K, so top turbo bin is 38x while 3770K is 39x, my bad.
