Weird issue with my netgear adapter

Thread Starter
So I had something weird come up last night while I was using my computer... I was plugging in a controller to let it charge overnight and when I went to plug the controller in I have the following message pop up on my screen:

"Power surge detected on USB port"

I begin to wonder what is going on and then see that my wireless usb adapter I been using lost connection to the router and so I was without internet connection. I began to wonder if the adapter is truely "zapped" or if its still ok and the port bad now.... so I did a little testing and went about plugging it into the front which worked for while and then woke up this morning to find the exact same message again showing up.

Wireless Adapter I use is : Netgear WN311v2 and we have a Netgear Router (Netgear WGR614)

I have had a couple issues in the past where this hasn't loaded up correctly and had to reboot my machine to find the adapter again and then everything is ok.

So my guess is that the adapter is toast / "zapped" / not working at all but I wanted to see what you all said about it.

I am thinking about trying to pick up a different adapter just to be sure but I am not sure if I really want to do that without looking into it further... These are just some thoughts that are running through my head while im at work trying to understand why my computer is telling me that and why I am seeing those error messages pop up.

Funny you should mention Netgear adapters, as my home one broke today too. If you get the power surge message try it on a different USB port, if that fails, try a different computer, if that fails bin it and buy a new one.

I personally try to stick with Intel controllers for NICs and Wireless cards, the business line cones are worth the money.
