Why even Dual Core? - Page 2

I'm thinking about a Pentium D 915.
How about overclocking with it?
(Just a basic opinion, good or not so good.)

Would a Intel Dual Core in the same price region be better?
A Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 will smoke a 4600++. But Costs about twice as much as a 3700++.

A Pentium D 915 is about $135 is there any way you could stretch to make the $180 for a Core 2 Duo E6300?

Yes. So, E6300? I hear that the first time.

Edit: I just checked it on Newegg.
It has 1.86 GHz. My two year old Athlon has 2.8.
I actually wanted a faster computer.

That 1.86 core 2 will vaporize that old athlon. speed in Ghz doesn't say everything anymore, it's mostly about clock cycles.

To compare, that 'slow' processor is about as fast as the FX62 from AMD (one of their fastest, running at 2.8Ghz)

And.. it overclocks very well! with some decent cooling you could easily get 3.2Ghz

That 1.86 GHz processor will smoke a Intel Pentium 4 3.7GHz Extreme Edition.
If you want to put a GHz figure to it think of its performance as being about 4.8 GHz

Mine is running at 2.18 GHz up from 1.86 GHz with room to improve and im using stock cooling. I havnt tryed to push it. Its just the first OC I tryed. Prime 95 stable. I mite try more later. I just dont see the point at the moment. Its already way faster than any thing I need.

dual core isnt much more expensive. if you have the money id say e6600 but the e6300 would still owne just about anything.

That would be over a 1.3 GHz more from overclocking.
Is that really possible?

Well, is that a good choice for a gaming computer?
