Thread Starter
I have been running this processor at 4GHz since I purchased it about a your ago. For 4GHz the chip requires 1.32V but for 4.2GHz it needs 1.43V. In both of these cases the temps are ok under load 65C for 4, and 75 for 4.2 both on the hottest core. Currently one of my radiators is lacking fans so I should be able to get 2 degree drop by adding some but it wont be much.

I don't need this computer to last forever but I want to get a year or two more out for the CPU. It seems that the general consensus is stay under 1.4V but i am wondering if anyone have been using more than that for extended periods of time.

Also when I add fans to the second rad they will be on the right side so do you think i should have them pull or push.

People do go above 1.4v and there really isn't too much wrong with it if you keep your temps low, but I myself would not do it because it will decrease the life of the chip, will take more power, produce more heat, be pretty much no faster than 4ghz, and might effect the resale value of the chip.

Absolutely not - why degrade expensive hardware by exposig it to more heat and strain and instability for a negligible result.
Run it at 4GHZ @1.32v and if that doenst give you the computing power you need upgrade to a X3890 CPU

Toss 2 fans on the back of that Rad pulling air through and if your temps are lower as in 72c or less on hottest core, your fine up to 1.450v with no issues at all. I have a i7 920 C0 stepping here at work that has been on 24/7 since the chip released and it's running 4ghz with 1.450v and has had no issues for over 3 years now. Go for it if you can stay under 72c max load. You chip will not be harmed
