Thread Starter
Hey

I oc my i5 2500k to 4.6ghz with 1.4v and wanted to know if you reckon i can get to 4.7ghz or 4.8ghz and what temperatures id be looking at here is my temps under prime 95 stress test smile.gif:

338

I was also wondering why my core voltage in cpu-z reads at 1.140v but ive set it to 1.4v in the bios. Which volts should i go buy ?? i.e can i keep oc till im 1.4v in cpu-z or in bios :S

RAM: g-skills rigjaws cl11 2133mhz ( 8gb)
CPU: i5 2500k 4.6ghz 1.4v
GRAPHICS: Gigabyte 560 TI (1GB)
HDD: 1TB 3.5"
PSU: COOLERMASTER GX 80+ BRONZE 750W
COOLER: COOLER MASTER 212 EVO HYPER + 2nd fan ( Cooler Master Xtraflo 120mm fan )
Motherboard: Gigabyte z68xp-ud3 (rev1.3)
CASE: Antec 100 ( Rear and top fans)
Thanks help is highly appreciated.

Hey bazzi, with your current max temperatures reading ~73-76C I'd be wary of going higher than 4.6 for 24/7 use, since you will most likely have to add 0.030v more to reach 4.8 which will - in my experience with the cooler you're using - result in 80C temperatures during load.

Regarding your voltage question, when you have RealTemp up and running, you can click on box with the timer up in corner to switch between powerdraw, timer and VID. The voltage posted in CPU-Z is going up and down frequently due to v-droop (this can be managed by using the LLC setting in your BIOS (Load Line Calibration)) - this setting might go by another name depending on the bios in use.

I would go with the voltage posted in your BIOS since the CPU-Z is affected by V-droop.

First of all no software reading of voltages is accurate; if you want accurate readouts you really have to get yourself a multimeter and use the voltage check points on your motherboard.

To counteract the voltage drop you can either raise your LLC setting (which isn't really a good thing since having load voltages higher than idle voltages through LLC results in unpredictable voltage spikes), or you can use offset voltage to overclock.

Depends on the processor mine takes a lot more volts feom 4.7 to 4.8. Temperatures are also a lot higher of course its like 1.37 ish ti 1.4 ish between the two. Unless you almost need no more voltage id say no without a new cooler.
