Can't select 1Gigabit ethernet on 1GB adapter..? - Page 2

post #11 of 14
If you set it to auto, then check "show connection when connected" so it shows up on the taskbar near the clock, does it say "connected at XXXmbps" when you hover over it? That should confirm how the auto is working, and tell you if the low transfer speeds are another issue.

1Gbps it shows. Hmmm im so stumped now.

This is the current setup of networking.

PC - - -> 1GB Switch - - -> Homeplug In - - - > Homeplug Out - - - > 1GB Router

I've checked the connection speed on the homeplugs which are rated at 500Mbps and they are showing a 110Mbps transfer speed. Seriously stumped on what it could be.

EDIT: Also, tested download from Microsoft and Ubuntu sites and I get about 500kbps down on average. However if I use a Newsgroup it hits 7.1Mbps download and the RDP connection or web interfaces running on the computer sometimes stop responding..

Right click/status, what does it report?

Try a different driver, try different patch cables. If you terminated the wires yourself, double check them.

My father-in-law helped me wire some of my GB network at home, he stripped the outer case too aggressively on some of the connections and nicked the wires on alot of them, some all the way through the metal but the casing held them. Caused all kinds of problems with GB connectivity. I had to re-do them, and no problem.

Are you sure that firewall is GB? If it's a CISCO firewall for internet it may only be 100.

Tried diff cables, the reported speed on the server is 1GB and the homeplugs report their speed as 100Mbs.

There is no firewall in my network? Its an unmanaged 1GB Cisco Switch - I did think maybe the switch was knackered. If i remove it from the network the speed doesnt change.
A direct connection into the router on a different machine gives me a 70Mb/s speedtest, however I'm unable to plug these machines directly into the router
