My current PC:
Motherboard
Picture of my pc
Asus DirectCu HD 6950 1GB
PCI Sound Blaster X-FI audio card
PC is located in a separate small room.

I have been searching info on different coolers for many weeks and here is a list I gathered:

Information + links (using 7970 as it will most likely be that same cooler for 680):
Hardocp Gigabyte 7970 custom cooler
Hardocp Reference 7970 cooler
Quote:
Gigabyte 7970 67c/34% fan at 1000Mhz core
Reference 7970 83c/51% fan at 925Mhz core stock
GTX 580 89c/56% fan stock
HD 6970 88c/49% fan stock
Now, we found that the noise level of the GIGABYTE Radeon HD 7970's fans at 80% to be about the same as the GeForce GTX 580's once it reached 45-50%.
This sounds extremely (too?) optimistic on noise side for Gigabyte.

- Guru3D Gigabyte 7970 Windforce 1000Mhz Temperature 64c Noise 42db
- Guru3D Asus 7970 DirectCU 1000Mhz Temperature 69c Noise 39db
- Guru3D MSI 7970 Lightning 1070Mhz Temperature 63c Noise 38db
Guru3D reference 7970 78c 42db.

GTX 680 ones:
- Tweaktown MSI GTX 680 TwinFrzr OC reference pcb? This review is overclocked from the factory default oc, so it's more noisier than reference stock 680. Can't seem to find a good review yet.
- Guru3D Gigabyte 680 Temperature 63c Noise 40db
Guru3D reference GTX 680 79c 41db. Gigabyte 680 looks very nice.

What I'm searching:
- Within 100euros of reference price.
- Doesn't need to overclock
- 1 GPU setup only, my eyes don't like sli/xfire
- Low db in higher frequencies, this is what puts me off in every loudness test. The cheap sound meters stop at 8kHz, which is very low. Human ear goes up to 20kHz, I can still hear up to 17.5kHz (XF Hearing Test Beta, don't put headphones on your ears at the first try and read the warning. It is quite loud). Although I'm not sure if fan noises go above 8kHz, but I would like to stay away from smaller fans.
- I will use custom fan-profile, where I put it to float around 80c under full load. Currently I have set my Asus directCU 6950 1GB( this card fan's are different from 3-slot version) 81c under full stock load with 39% fan. Above 39% fan, it's becoming annoying with higher pitch sound. PC room temperature is 28c. I have noticed that giving up on fan speed decreases the noise a lot, huge difference between 68c/70%(I would go crazy on this one very quickly) vs 73c/50%(Annoying) vs 81c/39%(Silent). Notice that the PC is in the other room.
- I want durability (4 years under full load near 80c, perhaps it will continue to be physx-card for even longer after that). I don't buy another card every 1-2 years. Last year was a bit different with the bitcoin boom, got free 2x 6950 out of it.

Choices:
- Asus DirectCU 3-slot cooling should be quite nice for single gpu setup. This is my first choice currently. Only thing bad would be, that I would need to get another audio card in pci-e slot, if I want to use my GTX 275 for physx. Onboard audio sucks, I can hear the computer interferences.

- Gigabyte Windforce?/soc?. This card looks very good on durability side and I have been reading that this is actually more quieter than Asus DirectCU. With this cooling I wouldn't need to buy anything extra for physx. The Guru3D review looks very good.

- MSI Twin Frozr. I don't like the fact that they made it over reference GTX 680, makes me wonder if it will be durable enough. Also I have been reading that their fan's are made little bit differently, giving lots of noise at some point. The Lightning version might be too expensive and I would need to wait even longer...

- Water. Is there any GPU water coolers that doesn't require upkeep? I did look these kinds of water coolers on CPU side and they were pretty bad, they actually were more worse than the air coolers.

Or have I missed something else?

I know that there isn't any information about Asus DirectCU GTX680 version yet. But if you compare through 580/7970 types of DirectCU coolers, the main question would be: Asus DirectCU vs Gigabyte Windforce, at their stock settings, which one gives less high pitch and general noise at 80c in a ~28c room?

Accelero Xtreme Plus II

I think its the quietest cooler out there.

Sounds very nice. But the Windforce does cover the memory as well, unlike this one. Guess the same cooling-kit comes with Xtreme III. Also I'm most likely going to buy non-ref card (Accelero Xtreme III actually requires non stacked power sockets) so the price will go quite high. Accelero Twin Turbo II seems to fit non-ref cards also and is more cheaper, but less efficient.

Warranty would work with EVGA. Bad thing is that I would need to pay more than +100e and Accelero Xtreme III is not yet released. So in bad case, I would need to wait ~2 months for the cooler and be stuck with some EVGA cooling. And seems like even EVGA Signature 680 version has stacked power sockets... so guess no chance to have warranty with Accelero Xtreme III.

Although Artic Accelero review is just amazing. 72c at 1000rpm 32db vs Windforce 78c ~3000rpm ~52db. Not sure how they came up with that figure for Windforce, the previous review just for Windforce says 71c 2610rpm ~50db, maybe that much different room temperature. But still this 3rd-party cooler looks far superior.

There seems to be some resonating problems with the Twin Turbo II. This would be available already and even fit the reference GTX 680, but I don't want extra problems.

Perhaps I will buy Accelero Xtreme III later on, if I find the DirectCU/Windforce to be very bad and decide to forfeit the warranty.

Palit GTX680 with the 3-fan JetStream should also be fairly quiet. A 4GB version is going for 540 Euro.
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-010-PL
The ETA is 'overdue' and so this should come up soon.

Reviews of the 2GB version:-

I note one thing of your current setup and I suggest you to try for better thermal/acoustic performance:-
Currently your graphics card sits in the first blue PCIEx16 slot and the sound card sits in the second white PCI slot. As such, the sound card partially blocks the air inflow to the cooling fans of the graphics card. This likely brings in (slightly) higher temp and faster fan speed (more noise).

So, try installing the graphics card to the second blue PCIEx16 slot and the sound card to the first white PCI slot. As such, the fans of the graphics card (current card or the future GTX680 with non reference cooling) should have zero blockage air inflow. And as you are using a Cooler Master Test Bench, the graphics card cannot be more happier, airflow wise.

I tried the audio card other way around when I got this new open case, but it made no difference on temperature/%fan. If I will get 3-slot card, then I will have it the other way. I just left it like that so there's more general airflow. If the audio card(no fan) would be on top of video card, then the space between would have no airflow and that side of the video card does get up to 70c.

That Palit Jetstream has weird looking fans, reminds me of MSI Twin Frozr fans, which reminds me of someone telling those fans give special noise. Also the 74c / 39db suggests that it won't be better than Windforce 63c / 40db at near 80c setting or whatever temperature it will be when it should be silent, most likely 3-slot directCU / Windforce will be a lot more silent than my current 2-slot smaller fan directCU(81c).

Ah finally Asus DirectCU II GTX 680 TOP review.

ASUS DirectCUII TOP Clock speed is 1137(1267), 64c temperature and 40db noise. Seems to be the old version DCII heat pipe... oh well.
Gigabyte Windforce 3X 1072(1123), 63c temperature and 40db noise.

Seems like DCII is more silent for my needs, also it has bigger fans. Both of them should be compatible for possible Accelero Xtreme III also. Tempting to just buy the very first one that comes in the country first, hope it's DCII.

1) The Artic cooling aftermarkets wont work on non reference boards.

2)No matter what nonstock cooled card from whatever maker you buy, they WONT even touch the artic cooling aftermarket solutions, specially regarding noise. Those are EXTREMELY quiet while delivering quite the best possible air cooling solution at the same time.
