A lot of people keep saying Bulldozer failed, and I do understand how it has failed to a certain degree. By that I mean Intel performed better. However, this does not mean in any way that Bulldozer is a failure, it is still more than capable of running any program that an Intel CPU can, and the difference in actual throughput (excluding synthetic benchmarks) would be seconds at the very most.
Whilst Intel's offering are indeed better, I just don't understand how any sort of work could just Intel over AMD because what we say is a big margin in performance (being pursuers of performance) is actually not that big in the real world to those who don't obsess over marginal gains.

It failed because of what they said they would be offering to the market. When you release the next generation in your product line, with two addittional cores, it would behouve you to make it better than it's six core predacessor.

There's no doubt that AMD is going to survive because in everything that's actually important to the market, their products have been succeeding heaps.  So far, the APUs and GPUs have been excellent and a massive success and Trinity APU is going to bring AMD forward even further.  Bulldozer failed?  Fine.  An AMD product failed to attract what is 5% of the entire computer market and its release did not even have any effect on AMD's stock market rating - now, suddenly, we are going to worry if "AMD is going to survive"!?

Bollocks.

This.

How? they are getting out performed by both nvidia and intel atm =s While being generally more expensive they used to make competitive items while being amazing prices.

AMD sale numbers are OK. This means they are doing OK. Despite of lots of people shouting FAIL, its doest look like they fail. Remember that Bulldozers sold very well during relise, despite of perfomance figures were not as expected. Why? People still love AMD. Nothing is going to change it. AMD will do just fine. Hopefully they will do more than fine in couple of years.
Piledriver trinity perfomance numbers are untouchable by Intel. I just cross my fingers that Vishera will have at least 15+% perfomance increase vs Bulldozer. Lots of people will go to for it, if it will. Im sure of it.
AMD will do just fine.

Strong sales != high quality product.

I don't see AMD failing anytime soon... they survived '11, so they should be able to survive anything at this point.

There is no reason to think that AMD would leave the market. Nvidia GPU area is not unequivocal winner. CPU area they still have a good offer, not to mention the APU. And products that will be used in the new consoles.
Sorry my english!

I'm not too worried about AMD's survival, If rumors are to be believed then AMD will be supplying the:

PS4 - CPU+GPU
XBOX720 - GPU
WiiU - GPU

That alone should be able to sustain them for the next few years. I hope they still continue to focus on improving CPU designs.

Yeah after bulldozer and seeing intel just keep pulling farther and farther ahead I had to finally make the switch.. They're getting farther behind in the enthusiast and performance markets.

This is pretty much where I am at but those of us that care about enthusiast level or peformance level hardware (CPU side obviously GPU a little different) shouldn't hold our breaths

I dont think AMD is a failure. I think they are a failure in the CPU enthusiast and performance market

Low end sales? Mobile sales? Sure they're gonna remain in an OK position. However, in the market that this website is interested in I fail to see how they will regain so much lost ground in any reasonable amount of time. Either Intel is going to have to stay in development stasis for 3 to 5 years or AMD is going to have to have a miracle breakthrough to get back to competing. As it is they arent even price competitive at this point with i3-2100 and i5-2500 plus the new Ivy series smoking anything AMD has at the same price points. Why do you think im on a 2600k and not an 8150? I had an AM3+ board since september with an 1100T in it waiting for the BD release. For a 300 dollar CPU its not competitive enough. It does good in tasks that dont transfer over to real world usage but in most (if not all) real world applications it got smoked by something that was the same price point as it.

Lets just look at the FX-6100... Newegg is selling them for 150 bucks last time I looked... I sold my USED 1100T for 170 not even a month ago. We can hope piledriver improves significantly but even if it does by the time PD comes out we'll have steppings of Ivy bridge that may have fixed its heating issue. (heat aside it draws less power and performs better than SB which performs better than FX)

I like AMD I want them to do well competition is good for everyone. But it doesnt look like, at least in the enthusiast and performance markets, that AMD has a chance in hell of recovering.

Basically the article says management knows whats going on, and fixing it. Rory Read will do a good job with AMD in my opinion.

New sockets and radical new performance from Steamroller is nice to hear, and the comment on PileDriver core scaling sounds wonderful.

I'm going Piledriver & a loop when it comes out, i want 5.5ghz.
