Bootup Issue - GTX 260 (sig-rig)

Thread Starter
My sig-rig was sitting in storage for a few weeks and when I moved into my new place, it just won't boot. I'll hit the power, everything inside will turn on yet my monitor won't register any activity, not even any beeps from the MB. Then after about 30 seconds the entire thing just shuts off without warning.

I have tried re-seating everything, multiple monitors, etc. But nothing is helping.

I can't tell if my GPU is dead or what, because I find it odd that after 30 or so seconds the entire thing shuts down. Wouldn't that be a power-supply or motherboard issue?

Help!

Ah I'll try that.

How do I reset the BIOS if I can't even get to the boot menu or anything? It literally stays completeley blank and the monitors light's just keep flickering as if they weren't plugged into anything at all.

Thanks for your reply!

there should be a jumper that you have to move over a pin. let me look up your board and show you. gimme a min. the jumper is usually near the battery. but look on the back I/O panel for a little black button.

Ah yes that's right, sorry it's been a few years since I tinkered in PCs' lol

Is this also a sign of the CMOS battery needing replacement? The 2 LEDs' on the motherboard shine when I power up the system but does that necessarily mean that the MB is booting up fully?

I have had this same problem several times and it could be several things. I don't see how changing the CMOS battery would hurt. Did a CMOS reset help you?

Yeah tried that, along with all the other suggestions:

- Clear CMOS, reset battery
- Reseated EVERYTHING, every plug and every component
- Tried with having one HD/3 on at a time (and with no HD)
- Tried having one RAM in each of the 4 spots, including no RAM at all. (used each stick too)
- Multiple monitors
etc.

Next I guess I have to try a different CPU, GPU, or a new motherboard all together, but I just moved to a new area and don't know anyone lol

How did you solve this problem in the past?

I have gotten a new CMOS battery and have done everything I posted above a couple more times...

I am thinking it is a Motherboard issue... Is there any way to test to see if it is even though the damn computer won't boot?
