I dont disagree, once I started really looking at it I realized with two colors I wasnt going to be able to pull off the contrasts I wanted, So now I am re evaluating thumb.gif

Now I am scared, before I even started cutting the design out, or painting went to rearrange some masking tape and watched the red start to peel...bad. Have a feeling I am going to have some real cleaning up to do after the black

Hate to hear that.
I would look at using some frisket paper to cut design it has less adhesion so will remove easier and you won't need to worry about paint going under the overlapped masking tape. It can also be cut before laying it on the panel if not to intricate.

Frisket masking paper-you can get this at most hobbie stores.

I actually have been meaning to pick some up, the cutting didnt go poorly in fact strangely enough I got no life around the design, that being said ive lost the entire panel, , we are currently sitting at bare metal mad.gif Very strange though, the rest of the case the paint seemed bullet proof but that one panel it lifted like I had used a no stick cooking spray as primer. Oh well, on the plus side, I get to repaint and see if I can get the finish even better this time.....to the paint booth *points heroically to the back yard"

That is strange it peeled from the metal. Make sure you are spraying paint wet enough to adhere if it's to dry it won't flow into sanding scratches and it could peel.
Did you prime t first? if so make sure it has plenty of time to cure if painted to soon solvents release will cause paint to peel also. You can usually tell if you wet sand and water beads off like it has oil in it.

Once you think it dry like overnight set primed piece in sun to speed up curing...but not to soon as it might bubble.

I think I am just having a bad luck weekend, last night it peeled, then I sliced my finger pretty good with an exacto, then stepped barefoot on a spent rivet dipping it pretty good into my foot, then today both cans of paint I had left couldnt spray anything without sending splatter drops all over the place. Think I am giving up on the painting for a while, there is other work that can be done and I will wait until the dark cloud passes. biggrin.gif

Here is the "good" side, and the start of the black

I did realize as I was painting this time that I was painting way too warm, hanging in the sun, the panel would heat up as well as the paint, no matter how hard I tried I couldnt get a wet coat to save my life, most of the time I could reach out and touch it with no smudge or even tack right after putting the spray can down. I cooled it down and painted in the shade, and was able to get a much more reflective surface, as demonstrated below

*2nd edit*

Crap, just read the part about letting primer cure, well lets cross our fingers on this one, certainly didnt cure this time.
When I was picking out primer this time I realized I wasnt using the etching primer you recommended, just filler primer, not sure if that would make a big difference, but worth pointing out

Sorry for the lack of updates all, pretty hectic right now with all the Dr's appts, and I am still searching for a bible for the top, and waiting for switches to come in, so we are on TEMPORARY hiatus
