new settings on 4gb

Thread Starter
Hello there,
it's been awhile since i was part of a computer forum. i built my computer some time ago and it's been fine so i haven't had to mess with it. now, i've added an extra 2GB of ram giving me a total of 4GB. i am now having issues with my computer. i don't game, but i will at times do autoCAD or Inventor. my wife plays on Facebook (Farmville) and thats where the problem is. it at times locks up. i've run OCCT for several hours with no issues so i don't understand why an internet game would lock up the computer. i think it has to be something with the 4GB of ram (specifically the settings) but i am unsure. i wouldn't think it would be the old video card, but again, i don't have all the answers.
is there anyone that has an idea of what to change the setting to? maybe a basic start? i had the cpu overclocked to 2.7 up until i replaced the ram. i just couldn't get it to work right OC'ed.
not sure all what info you need to help, ask away and i will provide you with any information you need.
thanks!

What was your RAM configuration befroe? 2x1GB Sticks or 1x2GB stick?

Was the new RAM the same make/model with same timings? If they werent then you would likely have issues, especially f overclocked. You may need to go into your bios and set timigs, voltages, speeds that both sets of Ram can handle.

^^^ What he said plus - mixing of RAM can cause headaches even if it has the same voltage and timing specs.

sorry, i didn't know i got a response.
i had 2ea 1GB ram sticks. i went to 4ea 1GB ram sticks. i did have 2 different speeds, but same company. i didn't install all 4 of them until i sent all 4 sticks back to G.Skill and they sent me 2 matching pairs.

my bios is 704T (or something like that). on DFI-Street i honestly copied someone settings. they worked and were stable so i left them alone. i know enough about what to change but not what it actually does. (if that makes sense). i think it can be summed up by, i know enough to get into trouble but be able to fix it.
since my rig is so old, there isn't many if any posts about it. at the time no one OC'ed 4gb of ram because the benchmarks wouldn't be as good as 2GB.
i'd be willing to try a copy and paste set up, if it worked.
