OC help please

Thread Starter
So i'm trying to OC my CPU to 3.0GHz or 3.10 on my sandy bridge CPU (G840, it's 2.80GHz default) about it's multiplier, I recently confused someone saying it's locked.. but it was just "top locked". The multiplier is LIMITED it can range from 16x to 28x (automatically it's on 28x) Anyway, the thing is, how can I bump up my GHz to 3?? or a bit higher? I don't want to go crazy on these clocks.. just a sufficient clock for a stock cooler.. and what is QPI/Vtt voltage or Dynamic Vcore?? I looked around for this stuff and I didn't get a good answer.. anyone please explain to me these 2 terms? I have a Gigabyte Z68P-DS3 mobo, on the BIOS, there is no direct "CPU voltage" or anything like that term.. I don't know which one is for CPU voltage, as i think I need to pump a bit more voltage.. or anyone tell me what else I need to do. Thank you.

I have the same mobo. The only VCORE option I see is "dynamic vcore". What that tells me is that the CPU adjusts it's own voltage. I am running my CPU at 3.7GHz from the stock 3.3GHz by only increasing the multiplier. So far I have had no problems and it's running very stable. I will be clocking it more in the future, I'm just waiting for the paste on my H80 cooler to settle a bit. Good luck!

.........yeah.

Overclocking your setup is a BAD idea. For the sake of answering your question, I can tell you that the best thing to do would be to see if you could raise the base clock of the CPU. However, you should not OC with a stock cooler, you should avoid overclocking on a budget board, and you shouldn't even waste your time overclocking a non OC chip.
