Prime 95 High Temps W/ AMD 955

Thread Starter
I currently have my 955 @ 3.6GHz 1.300v, Max Load in Prime95 I get 62c-63c. I just put a new application of MX-4 on my processor, and It's kinda weird that this is happening. My CPU Cooler is a XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle. In game I don't get any where close to 62c-63c, but in Prime95 I get that. My Idle temps are 40c-44c, and my ambient temps are 69F-71F (Air Conditioner tongue.gif).

thats a little hot consdering your ambient temps and the volts you are using. Has it been better than that before and now only a porblem since you change TIM?

Right now I am idling at 47c-48c.. with the Arctic Silver (that I hadn't replaced for 2 months lol) I would get 50c-52c. I put my TIM on like this:

375

That isn't mine lol... that application looks horrible, but I smooth mine all out., both on my CPU and GPU.

Should I make a thin layer spread out all over, or make a small line/dot?, cause I normally make a thin layer spread out evenly, to make sure all parts are covered.

Make a small bead of TIM in the center of the CPU and let the pressure from the heatsink spread it out. I looked at that picture you posted and was reminded of the first time my 4 year old made a peanut butter sandwich by herself.
