How bout cold water cooled PC?

Thread Starter
I was in the process of deciding what radiator to get and I thought why not just plumb a cold water line in the basement right through the floor to my pc. I was thinking I could use two 12vdc Solenoid Valves and wire them to my psu (the second one would be incase the first fails. My cold water to the house stays well below the air temperature year round and currently ifs about 4C. I was thinking I would keep the water flow low and just water the lawn outside the computer room with the used water. What are your thoughts?

interesting idea but i would filter it... the chemicals in the water supply wouldnt be real good for your blocks i would think.. plus bubbles maybe an issue too.. just my thoughts smile.gif

You mean actually passing tap water through your loop?

Anything other than distilled water will quickly scale up your loop components.

well the only component in the loop would be a water block and some bulk 1/2" x 3/4 hose... hmm maybe stubas's idea would help keep the block clean.

A guy from one other forum has done exactly same thing. He connected his computer to the pipe that was going to his washing machine, and passed tubing through the wall.

His computer had water starting automatically together with turning on the computer, with flow meters cutting power if flow was not there.

He is using water filter as well, and reports a very thin layer of buildup, lower than when using dyes.

This might be of interest to you (photos) - use google translate wink.gif

Don;t do that dude. Fresh drinking water just wasted on a lawn all year round? You'll have a swamp out there before long. And again, wasting much more fresh drinking water than a jug of DI water.

Second; condensation. You going to insulate?

Well, I get your point but some people here also waste fresh electricity to do folding etc. Condensation would be a problem only at very very low temperatures.

About the water usage. I live next to a lake and am only 10' above the water table in the ground so there is no shortage of water... after all I'm not transporting it outside of the earths atmosphere. And as far as a swamp there is a very thin layer of black dirt and other than that it is sand so water standing would not be a problem at a low flow level under the circumstances that I have.
