Looks like Intel followed in AMD's footsteps and pulled a bit of a Bulldozer:

How'd they pull a bulldozer? Ivy Bridge is just a die shrink of Sandy Bridge.. it consumes less power too

At least it will still perform well even if it isn't an amazing overclocker.

IB was advertised as having a 77W TDP.

Also, some early reviews showed max load temps >90C even on an H100

I'd say that's pulling a bit of a BD.

That would explain the alleged price drop.

It is Intel's new 22 nanometer technology with Tri-gate transistors that has brought these limitations. The transistorsare extremely tightly packed and the die size is so small compared to earlier processors, that the heat cannot be removed fast enough with air and water cooling. Rumors has it Intel is not entirely on the mark with the new 22 nanometer technology and a box shot of a Core i7-3770k shows a higher TDP than earlier expected.

Where do they even get ANY info about overclocking? I see no benchmarks or screenshots showing them overclocking the cpu...........

This is definitely not like bulldozer as this has better clock for clock performance than SB.

Plus it is not surprising that the temperatures could be higher or equal to SB because this is the first time a chip is using a tri-gate transistor so no one could predict how they would handle heat dissipation....

Oh wow lol. Good thing I snagged up a 2600k. Going to sit back and see how IB pans out.

Been a few reviews/previews released already and they all pretty much say the same thing, IB is a worse overclocker than SB. However I think IPC performance is up 7% or something like that.

So its nothing like BD, since IB is actually an improvement on the whole. Ultimately, overclocking headroom is always nice and I'm glad I didn't wait for IB, but its far from a BD release. Sure, it nothing like what we were expecting to see, so in that sense its a little disappointing. But I wouldn't put it in BD's league.

Your statement is false, you would have to add "on air/water cooling" for your statement to be true......

Ivy bridge is a better overclocker than Sandy bridge, just not on conventional cooling.

You have to remember that for BD, IPC is worse than PIIs. Not to mention a 4 core non HT Ivy will easily outperform anything from AMD even heavily threaded apps.

I'll wait for a full review of Ivy before I make my decision about it.
