I tried waiting. I didn't make it. 1155 is dead after this anyway.

You could mention that tri-gate transitor 22nm process makes CPU's that are more powerful than SB chips even when not overclocked. Probably still won't update due to this problem. I'll go from i5-2500k to 3930k not to a 3770k.

I agree with this statement, was getting real excited about Ivy.But with the latest rumors/reports and the fact that this will be the last iteration of the 1155 platform I think LGA 2011 might be a better path for me.As you can see in my sig I'm about do for a change.

I was actually a bit worse than you with a Q6600. It'll be my little girl's first gaming pc. thumb.gif

Nobody saw this? What am I missing here? This doesn't look to be an ES chip. Is CPU-Z wrong? I'm seeing 77W TDP listed which would debunk this entire thread..........

In the "Specification" line, there's an (ES) near the end after the 3.50 GHz.

Anyhow...even if the TDP were somehow 95W, who cares? Many processors can draw more power at stock than the listed wattage of the TDP. It's used for whole classes of processors anyway: i5-2300 surely doesn't use as much power as i7-2700k but both are listed at 95W. It's not like the rating affects the performance.

It's just a guideline anyway, mostly for those concerned with cooling and VRM requirements.

Keep in mind that most all socket 1155 motherboards definitely support 95W TDP processors already, since they support all of Sandy Bridge. I guess some truly lower-end models are supposed to be capped lower than that though.

The whole point is that Intel is CHANGING the tdp from 77 to 95W. It's a big oopsy right before launch.
