Crossfire

Hey guys, Is it possible to run crossfire with the new ATI 1950's ?, or Would I need to get a 1950 Master Card and then have a slave, or use a 1900XTX as a second card. What are the options?

With the X1950XTX you'll need a Crossfire Edition card. I do NOT know whether an X1950 Crossfire Edition card will work with the older X1900XTX, and the ATI website is inconclusive. Given the differences in memory, I lean toward that it will not work.
X1950 Crossfire Edition card: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=321364
X1950XTX: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...uctCode=321363

I believe that there will be an X1950 PRO coming soon, which is a totally different card than the X1950XTX, and for that one you do NOT need a Crossfire Edition card. However, not sure when that one will come out.

You sure you want to go all out on the video cards with the first DX10 cards coming out in November?

OCZ GameXSTream are excellent PSUs. They're identical to the FSP Epsilon, of which I have the 700W version with my X900's in Crossfire. the 700W GameXStream should be just fine.

only PSU that I would recommend over the GameXStream is the PC Power & Cooling Silencer, either 610W or 750W.

Gotta agree with Chozart....if you are heavy into gaming, dropping over $1000 on video cards now only to have them become "obsolete" in a few months in not a good idea.

I like the power delivery from the GameXtreme, i've been using it for about 3 weeks now. The 12v rail shows 12.25 at idle and 12.20 load at stock settings on my CPU and X1900XTX. The 5v rail shows 4.94, but it's steady.

However, given the customer service I recieved dealing with their rebate and attitude I've seen regarding their low cost phase unit, I would steer clear of them for those reasons......the internals are FSP made anyway. If you have the cash, the PC Power & Cooling Chozart links to above is supposed to be awesome.

I would suggest you get a single X1900XT or XTX, for about $300, overclock it and save your money for the DX10 cards. My stock XTX does a really good job even on my 42", although I haven't tested any super strenious games like Oblivion, it handled BF 2142 demo at max settings 1280x1024. It would get you by at least, unless you have $1000 to throw away Id so, let me give you my address

Well I dont think it would be wise for anyone to get the first DX10 cards to come out. Plus we need to find a PSU to power them in the first place. So his x1950 system will be fine for a year at least.

Not saying he should get the first gen DX10 cards, but second gen would not be far behind. A single X1900XTX should be more than fine for a year. Just save the remaining money.

Esp. with that 19" monitor, there is no reason for Crossfire alltogether.
