The only certain thing is your actually trying the fanless Silver Arrow out and see if it works and whether or not you accept the thermal outcome.
Other than this ultimate confirmation, here is my feedback:-1)
Your case is HAF-X which is a fairly good airflow case, assuming you have set it up right with well defined air intake and air exhaust paths2)
Your two GTX580s have traditional cooling design which exhausts most heat out of the case, meaning the case interior will not be affected much by this. This provides a good environment for a fanless CPU cooler.3)
With the above 2 'pros', I think it is quite feasible to go fanless for your Silver Arrow, provided that you do not
highly overclock your i7-2500K.
I suspect a slight or even moderate overclocking is do-able. I base this prediction on 2 observations:-
a) the Silver Arrow is in the same category of the NH-D14
b) a fanless NH-D14 can handle a 4GHz 6-core i7-980X in an Antec 1200 case with the side panel opened
IIRC, member calvinbui
runs an i7-2600K with a fanless Silver Arrow as well. So, perhaps you can PM him and ask for his experience.5)
One 'cons' of this fanless setup is:- with a slightly overclocked i7-2500K, it could potentially become a bottleneck for your GTX580 SLI at the 1920x1080 resolution. Perhaps a moderately overclocked 2500K is enough. You might also ask calvinbui
on this aspect as well because he is also running GTX580 SLI at 1920x1200.Edited by windfire - 4/15/12 at 2:25am
