5.1 sound sound not working.. Any ideas why?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,
I am trying to hook up my surround speakers (Creative Inspire 5.1 5200) to my onboard sound (Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3) and it only seems to pick up the front pair, the center speakers, and the subwoofer (missing the back pair)
Here are some screenshots I took, using the latest version of Realtek HD audio manager 64-bit for Windows 7.
Any ideas how to fix? Thanks!

This is probably a really stupid suggestion but have you tried double clicking on your rear speaker output (either the green, orange or black) and making sure its set correctly to output sound to the rear?

Edit: I just realised that you do infact have it set incorrectly so it thinks that you have side speakers, simply change that output to rear speakers and you should be good to go... hopefully thumb.gif

If you are connecting the speakers directly to your onboard audio outputs, you should not have digital output set as the default device in the second screenshot. Try setting default device to speakers, the second option.

I think that might have been a mistake because he said that the only speakers he doesn't get sound from are the back two, if his digital output was default he wouldn't get any sound surely.

Is it a 5.1 Source you are using such as a Dvd, Blu ray or game?

As if you are only using say a CD with only stereo and you dont have virtual surround ticked it will only output from two speakers.
