Unless something has changed in the last year (gaming wise, which it hasn't), DDR3 1600 vs DDR3 2600 would not result in any noticable difference in games. Yes, if the prices were closer.. I'd grab a 2600 kit, but they are 3-4x more than a DDR3 1600/1866 kit. It's just not worth it, unless you are doing something that needs very fast memory. Game's just don't need this new ram.

Benchmarks are really the only thing that benefit. I would compare it to going from a good SSD to a great SSD, it's not noticable. Save $200 and buy something else, IMO.

I'd like to see these results please. I could see one "odd" game doing this or 3DMark11-type benchmarks, but overall it shouldn't make a noticable difference in real world gaming... definitely no where near 10%. If we could get 10% FPS gains for ~$200, I think more people would be jumping all over these newer kits. That's a way better price/performance ratio jump than spending $500 to go from a 580 to 680 (which many people did).

Honestly, right now the sweet spot is 1866 for 1.5v kits. Anything else is a waste of money in my opinion, your pay 2-3x more for a kit that can handle those speeds at 1.5v, and the gains are very small after 1866.

I went from 1600Mhz CL9 to 2133Mhz CL10 and noticed like 1-5FPS gain in some games, faster load times in Windows and games (few seconds at most) and a lot faster benchmarks. That is actually more than I expected, I just wanted 8Gb over 4Gb really.

I want to see testing on lower timings after 1866Mhz on SB, because I have a feeling that becomes more of a limitation than pure Mhz after around 1866. Mind you, IB will probably change it all up again.

If you're doing anything other than heavy multi-tasking - this goes for gamers in particular - then a 1,600MHz or 1,866MHz kit is plenty. You could opt for CL8, as we saw some advantage in the video encoding test, but we wouldn't obsess over this factor, especially if a CL9 kit is much cheaper.

My reasons for buying 2133Mhz were these: It was the same price as 1866Mhz, it was red, I like red, it was 2x4Gb sticks, more e-peen with 2133Mhz lachen.gif

But honestly I would have no problem getting 1866Mhz if it were the same price at the time I got my RAM sticks
