Upgrading bios from stock on GA-990FXA-D3 (rev. 1.x)?

The gigabyte website says to not update the bios if you aren't having any problems, does that really matter? Should i update it? Which one do i pick, the newest?

Gigabyte's website is correct. Unless you're having stability issues or issues that are unresolvable without a BIOS update, don't update the BIOS. Generally, I always update the BIOS before RMA'ing any hardware after troubleshooting hardware related BSODs to make sure a recent BIOS wasn't the only thing necessary.

People recommend updating the BIOS just like you'd update drivers, but it's completely unnecessary and only adds risk. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Update it !

BIOS always include fixes and stuff, flash the newest.

That is true. However, most newer Gigabyte boards have a DualBIOS feature that usually prevents a faulty BIOS flash from bricking your board.

There should be a changelog before you download the BIOS.

With FX CPU motherboards it probably is a good thing to update to the latest BIOS as mobo makers are still sorting out the BIOS for this new architecture. The warning to not update unless you have issues is typically valid with mature BIOS because a failed BIOS update will disable your mobo and it will need to be returned to get the BIOS chip replaced. With the FX mobos there are a lot of BIOS updates as mobo makers sort out the details.
