STALKER has its own niche audience, though. Trying to make that leap over to the console market and focus solely on consoles would be extremely risky when most console gamers haven't even heard of the STALKER series. For a developer of a game like STALKER, that's a risk that they literally could not afford to take. I'm definitely not worried about them changing their focus.

I would bet good money on STALKER 2 being simplified if it is also released for consoles and therefore annoying every single STALKER fan. I can personally see it happening. Another Crysis 2 (personal opinion) if you may. It would be a real shame if it happens.

Ehh.. I think it will be "simplified" whether it's to cater to consoles or not. I found that Call of Pripyat was much more straight forward and simpler than Shadow of Chernobyl (still enjoyable, however). I can't see it being anything like Crysis 2, which I think was blown way out of proportion anyway, because Crytek had a much better financial backing than GSC Game-World meaning they could afford the risk.

Really hope this game sees the light of day,if i recall,first Stalker was the first game made by this studio,i remember followying it closely and even trying out leaked betas that were around before release date,and still to this day i say Stalker was one of the best (minor bugs aside,nothing mods+patches didnt fixed) fps i ever played,gave out a awesome feeling of open world game,with a incredible atmosphere,sadly this kind of games been fewer and fewer this last years frown.gif

Actually, COP is much weaker than SOC in almost every single regard. The first map is kinda nice, but the third one is just dull and boring. You get also tired of being all day at the trader (scavenge around, go there to sell, back to scavenge) and not changing maps make the game a bit more tedious. The final is anticlimatic as the third map is the weakest which leads the experience down.

What they have to do is try to create a tutorial so that new players aren't like *** is this?!?!?! Because unfriendliness was the first I thought when I played the game 5 years ago and thought I didn't understand a thing... I played for 30 minutes, got killed by radiation, anomalies and the military post at cordon without having a clue about what I was supposed to do nor how not to die. Once you understand the principles (first hours) the game becomes a blast that IMO no other game compares to in any possible way.

So, I'm eager to try Stalker 2, and don't think they will try weird stuff like going consoles. At the end of the day the Stalker series sold very well in the western European countries (it kinda makes sense since Chernobyl is over there) and you know that if you make a big of a marketing campaign AND polish the game so that newcomers don't have a hard time the game will sell many, many copies.

To those who think GSC will jeopardise STALKER 2 with a crappy console port. You have to remember that STALKER is not a mass market game and has a huge cult following on PC. Its pretty impressive to sell 4.5million copies on PC alone (SoC, CS and CoP). Remember, this isn't some modern warfare, mass market appeal franchise like CoD or Battlefield. STALKER is set in a very unique setting, has gameplay mechanisms that make it inaccessible to almost all but the most hardcore FPS players and has survival elements that you just don't see in any mass market games (need to eat food, way weapons handle etc.)

In short, STALKER 2 won't be nerfed simply because it does not have mass market appeal. Can you honestly see the whiny 13 year old XBL kids playing STALKER? Heck no! Even on PC when we have (generally speaking) a more mature demographic, STALKER is still a love or hate game. There is no middle ground for STALKER (generally speaking). STALKER is either a game you follow religiously, like I do, or you think it was a buggy pos and never got into it. Very few people are in the middle. And for a game to be succesful on the mass market, you need a game that doesn't polarise the player base. Which is exactly what STALKER does. So for that reason, I highly doubt STALKER 2 will be withheld due to consoles. I think if anything, GSC will use the new tech and push the boundaries even more with an even more realistic and hardcore experience.
