EDIT - THREAD RENAMED

Hey guys looking for some software that will copy all files from one HDD to another and then keep them synced...

I would also like this software to be able to sync over lan to my server HDD.

Thanks

bumped edited thread title -- hope someone notices! I'm afraid HDD failure is imminent and I need active backup :/

Easy, I normally use robocopy or freefilesync.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freefilesync/

For freefilesync I think you may need to just map the network drive.

I use robocopy to backup from my workstation to my NAS, I also use robocopy to move / update files from my office laptop to a external harddisk that I carry home on weekends.. Very handy and logs are easy to read too..

Attach few examples..

My script
Code:
robocopy "D:\folder path" "L:\folder path" /mir /r:1 /w:1 /fft /tee /log+:D:\backup.log /np /xd D:\folder path\test_folder

This script backups my D:\FOLDER to L:\FOLDER (nas) using the switch /mirror, read and write retires of just 1, and append backup log to d:\backup.log, exclude test_folder inside folder path... /fft and /tee switch if I remember right is to not input the % in the actual log, but display it in the shell window only, otherwise the logs would blow up very fast.

My backup log:
Code:

I suggest you do tests first on a test folder, since robocopy can write as well as delete your files, once you feel comfortable, then you can run batch scripts on your puter...

Many thanks I've tried robocopy with no luck, going to use the above post right now to test it a bit more... I tried a robocopy GUI tool. I found that FreeFileSync works great except that it does not store a DB or files.. I wish it would do incremental backups VS scan all files each time. It takes too long to do backups and usually I have to scan and do the copy later.
