Correct tRC timings

Hi all.

What is the general consensus on tRC timings? The most I have read is tRC = tRP + tRAS, which is how I have my memory set up at the moment:

Some others recommend tRC = tRP + tRAS + 2

Loads of threads mention anything lower than tRC = tRP + tRAS will lead to OS and HDD corruption, one for example -> http://forums.legitreviews.com/about20065.html

But then I come across this site that has the tRC way lower than tRP + tRAS and an associated increase (almost negligible though) in performance:

I also run my setup briefly with a tRC of 15, and it booted fine and everything felt fine, but I was a bit hesitant on keeping it like that due to the potential "corruption".

Anyone else running a tRC lower than tRP + tRAS? Any corruption so far? My BIOS lets me set tRC down to 11, but I was only game to take it down to 15. Is it worth trying to play with this more?

There is so little difference in synthetic benches it pretty much doesn't matter. In real world apps there is no significant diff so it's really whatever makes you happy and is stable.

I was more worried about the corruption bit, otherwise I'm going to push it as as low as it goes.

Oh, I thought this forum was where we come to when we want to extract every little inch of life out of our computer components?

This forum is where many people come to share and help other people with accurate technical info. Go ahead and extract every bit of life out of your RAM, but your applications will never know the difference.

Myself I prefer to extract performance from my PC. thumb.gif

I am..this RAM seems to like it like that as a general rule..normally it would be 7-8-8-23
..but this RAM likes 7-8-8-20

That doesn't make sense. By that reasoning, I should be happy with a Walmart Christmas special.

I have noticed you harping on about the lack of "real world difference" in other threads. Granted there may be no noticeable difference - why then did humans invent maxmemm, pi32, and the myriad of other benchmarking apps?

As I said if you can't see it or feel it, does it matter? No harping - just factual information for those who want to learn. Whatever works for you is fine by me.

If a benchmark says you picked up 30% in THEORETICAL performance but you can't see a bit of difference in actual application performance - does it matter? Well synthetic benchmarks measure THEORETICAL, not actual application performance. That is why I find it funny when people become OCD over changes that make no significant diff in real world application.

No where have I suggested that you not do whatever makes you happy - even if it makes no significant difference in real application.

Independent testing by Tom's, AnandTech, X-Bit Labs and OCN's "damric" all confirm no significant gains in real world applications on typical desktop PCs with RAM frequencies above ~1333 MHz. and even less from changes in latencies as one clock cycle becomes less REAL time as the frequency increases. Test with real apps and see for yourself.

Many folks do not understand why changes to DDR3 RAM make such minor changes. The technical information presented is for those who want to learn and understand why typical DDR3 RAM changes make no significant change in real world apps. like they did with lower frequency DDR and DDR2. This is because DDR3 RAM @ 1333 MHz. isn't a bottleneck for typical desktop PCs.

A good while.... the RAM SPD is set like that @ stock..so..

right now I'm in 2133 mode..9-10-10-28 biggrin.gif

Schmuckley, I just noticed you are talking about tRAS. What about your tRC, the figure under tRAS in CPUz? What have you got for that?

I can't seem to raise my FSB any higher than 203, or it spits a 0x50 bsod. This memory is only at 1082, so I'm stumped why I can't take it any higher. I am think it's the highest the CPU will go, and it spits a 0x50 just for the hell of it.
