Without question ill trust your opinion and just go ahead and get the T2i. There's not much difference between the T2i and T3i anyway, is there?

Unless you feel you will unquestionably benefit from the flip-out screen, save your pennies and grab the 550D, as they use the same sensor/processor and there are very few differentiating features between the two models.

Nikon's lens system isn't that complicated, but the same could be said about Nikon user about Pentax or any other system. It's all relative.

As far as your choices go. The T1i with 18-55mm and 55-250mm is an excellent setup, but the T2i/T3i overall is a better camera.. The T1i and the all-in-one lenses is kind of meh. While superzooms offer a convenient smaller package they suffer from a lot of distortion, at different ranges, CA, softer, etc.

The T2i and T3i are pretty much the same thing. It's really up to you if the 15 quid difference is worth it for the wireless flash control and swivel screen.

You could always go used and save a ton more.

nikon lenses are like alphabet soup, no other system has lenses with so many alphabet in their lens titles.

you have G, N, DX, FX, AI-S, ED, Pre-AI, Non-AI.......

Tamron is a lot worse... ex. AF18–270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical (IF) Macro

Nikon still has a lot of really old lenses that people use. They have to be differentiated somehow.

I have a t2i and recently played with my friends D5100. If you're new to shooting with a DSLR, I would recommend nikon. It's very user friendly and guides you how to take a solid photo. Also playing around with the swivel screen, you can shoot at different angels; which was pretty fun.

Those are all lens feature identifiers though, where Nikon's nomenclature actually denotes cpu or non-cpu lenses, metering ability, AF/MF, etc.

That's not really true. Almost every single Pentax slr lens will work fully with any Pentax slr body http://www.mosphotos.com/PentaxLensCompatibility.html

No autofocus motor in lower end Nikon bodies, inability to mount non F mount glass (without optical adapter) does limit lens choices though.

If you want to make your life easier when you pick your next lens and not having to worry if your DSLR body can or can not power the lens' focus motor, then pick Canon.

I mean, the whole in-body focus motor is a bit of a moot point these days with Nikon. Almost every lens that a consumer is likely to buy today is already an AF-S lens.
