Any light into why a computer does this

post #1 of 13

ok we built a computer the other day, if you need the spec ill get it but i doubt will be needed. The computer is all fitted together and looks ok. The problem...

You turn the computer on and in a turns off.

e.g

<turn on>
1...
2...
3...
4...
<turns off>
<turn on>
1...
2...
<turns off>

any idea, 1st thoughts were the PSU was too small (350) but uped it to 450 and still doing the same

If possible check temps, i'd try reseating the CPU/heatsink and make sure you got the right ammount of thermal and the heatsink is attached right... it might be shutting down cause of overheating (i kind of doubt it)

I've had this happen and what fixed it for me was to take everything out of the case and put it back in... In my case a screw was causing my motherboard to short.

What is the CPU/graphic card(s) that will tell me if you have enough wattage.

Does it start POST when you turn it on? or just spinning fans, and then shut off?

Something did not get set right. You are just going to have to check everything again.

My CPU waterblock was SLIGHTLY off angle to the CPU when I had installed a new processor. It behaved like you are describing. I cleaned off the paste and re applied a tiny amount and reseated the water block and it worked fine.
