First Time Water Cooling BUILD COMPLETE! Pics Inside!

Hello everyone!

Well first of all I am a HUGE fan of anyone that has done any sort of WCing. I know it is a real pain at first, but over time, it gets more enjoyable and starts becoming a little bit of an obsession haha! I'm very new to OCN and want to build an amazing WC loop like so many of you!

Just like everyone else, I am finally taking the plunge into WCing biggrin.gif But I need some help figuring out if everything I am about to buy will work together and if there will be any foreseeable problems that I am going to run into. I have been doing a TON of reading in order to find out exactly what I need to buy for my rig. I have an i7 920 stock and I am looking to do CPU cooling only at the moment.

ALL HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!! THANK YOU IN ADVANCE thumb.gif

Ok so first of all I am going from an Antec 1200 to a Corsair 800D. I did my research and I went ahead and bought it so I am pretty much stuck with it. YAY smile.gif Ok but everything else is still in the air and has not been purchased. My budget is pretty open to anything within reason so let me break down what I want so far:

CPU Block: EK HF Supreme Full Nickel (EN) -Less oxidation and looks really cool! Also it looks as though EK is top dog
BOUGHT IT

Radiator: XSPC RX360 -Looks to be an overall lovable rad BOUGHT

Fans: Scythe GT AP-15 -Everyone is saying these beasts are AMAZING BOUGHT IT

Pump: DangerDen Laing D5 Fixed Speed with EK D5 X-Top BOUGHT

Reservoir: BitsPower Tank Z 250 BOUGHT

Tubing: Primochill 7/16 x 5/8 clear tubing BOUGHT IT

Fittings: 7/16 x 5/8 compression fittings BLACK BOUGHT

So this is basically what the loop will look like and of course the rad will be at the top. Any input on any of the items would definitely be appreciated. I'll be editing this post as I start to order everything within the next few days.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE biggrin.gif

Man that was really fun to build and I learned A TON! I'm already writing down what I need to buy for my second revision to this build biggrin.gif

-Drain System at bottom ( T -Line Method)
-FrozenQ Res (This BitsPower 250 is too BIG)
-Mayhem Dye...well maybe
-GPU COOLING (Once GTX 680's are actually in stock LOL good one! amirite?!?!)
-Replace all stock fans
-Some other stuff I haven't thought of yet lol

So once again, I appreciate everyone's help and look forward to more modding in the future!

Revision 2

So, obviously making my first WC loop made me craving for more things to add, so I did. biggrin.gif

Switched out my BP 250 ml res for a FrozenQ UV Green Res 250ml
Added a custom drain plug at the bottom
Added Mayhems Blue Pastel Dye

Enjoy the new pics!

As for the pump I would certainly go for MCP35x, with a wonderful PWM feature, meaning you can control it for example from speedfan, or set higher speed upon CPU reaching certain temperature. It also has a great top installed by default, with standard threads so you won't need any adapters

About pump tops: that's the part which routs the water in and out of the pump... aftermarket pump tops replace the one that comes with the pump by default. They pretty much all perform better than the default top, and also almost always come with G1/4" threads instead of built-in barbs so you can mount whatever kind of fitting you want/need. Also there are a lot of res/pump combos which means the pump top is built in and the whole thing is incorporated into the res. Not all pump/res combos are designed for the D5 so make sure you get the right one.

Just curious, but what are you trying to learn about compression fittings?

They are just like barbs, except it comes with a matching clamp which screws into the barb

remember not to over tighten any of your fittings, you just need them tight enough that the O ring squishes.

as for a reservoir, you could get some from xspc, they have res-es that attach to the pump, so you'd save yourself two fittings and some tubing.
They have reservoirs that go into the drive bay, which would probably be big enough for what you want, or you can just get one to fit somewehre else inside your case. Those reservoirs aren't as big, and would be really hard to fill your loop without using a molex connecting pump

Bay Reservoirs Pump Top Reservoir

some of the drive bays are pump tops too

Ok guys I have just about everything I need. The only thing that I am confused about getting are the compression fittings. Since I have a block, rad, res and pump, I will need a minimum of 8 fittings correct?

Which ones do I buy?

http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=28087

or

Sorry for being such a noob tongue.gif

Sorry for being such a noob tongue.gif

Go for the second option. You don't need the rotory fittings and they can leak with some force put on them.
