Need help, my 6970 is having issues.

Ok. So i've got a MSI 6970 lightning and it's having probs. playing games (wow, scII, random others) the screen either goes all black or black background with brownish-greenish vertical bars. doesnt happen all the time and when it does, it's been regardly of how long ive been on the comp or gaming. At that point, the system locks up, ctrl alt del a few times, hops back out to windows w/o issues, hit cancel and back to game, no issues.
I've tried reseating the gpu, also in a different slot, same prob.
I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the msi drivers for it, no solution. currently using drivers directly from Ati, but sitll having issues.

Anyone know if there's a fix to this at the customer side, or does it need to go back to MSI?

Also, at one point there was a loud clacking (deeper than a click), immediately shut the comp off, checked the gpu fans (origin of noise) and nothing was hitting the blades. that only happened twice. hasnt happend in quite some time, but the bars continue to come back, twice today in fact.

So, help????

Oh, and the card is not being oc'd at all, fans are running around 37%

Did you flip the BIOS switch to Middle?  Middle is performance BIOS + 2.5x PowerTune + higher clock limit.

Also check the temps are not overheating. Use GPU-Z under sensor tab.

havent touched the switch at all, i'll have to check what setting it's on. got gpu-z running, temp #1 = 38, temp #2 = 39.5, temp #3 = fluctuates between 41 and 43, all C.

noob here, but im assuming the diff temps refer to different places on the vid card itself, as i've only one card installed.
