Mah new Moto atrix2 died on me ( was flashing a small update manually and while I never replaced the ROM , I've goofed up the OS all together. Could always fix it , but the store offered me credit back.

Well , what do I do?? I have vaguely 500$ in credit right now and could either buy something now , or wait for something new to come out.

* Looking for a decent android phone with preferably :
\\ A big screen, and good resolution w/ good colors and angles
\\ At least a dual core
\\ Decent amounts of RAM
\\ Pocketable?? not too heavy and bulky.

I'm coming from a phone that had an OMAP 4430 chipset -- <1GHz A9 w/ NEON ><1GB RAM ><960x540 pixels across a 4.3Inch TFT >

Recently had a Samsung Wave 1. So i like solid phones-- preferably metal and all.

Contenders as of now :
UPDATED ******

SGS II -- Out the window
SG Nexus -- Same ^ though I'd kill for that screen of theirs.
HTC One S --- Not available and pricing not confirmed~ about 700$ WTH

********* OR I could just wait for the newer 28nm chips( the one S has one) ? I suppose even a dual core 28nm would be worth the wait ??

Side : Live in India so you're probably thinking international markets right now.

Ouch on the pricing of the SII... So not worth it at that price...

I'd look at the Nexus, One S or One X.. probubly this order for me: One X, Nexus, One S

The One S is a 28nm Dual Core mind you...

Yes, the One S is quite appealing right there.. the better IPC and all , and lower power consumption. Probably will OC higher if ever needed.

Everything here is OFF CONTRACT and annoyingly so. Must pay full unlocked prices.

The only reason I included the galaxy nexus is that I could get one from a friend from abroad but OFC w/o any warranty, and cheap at that. Wondering wondering ! If you thought that the SGS II was expensive .. the SG Nexus is ~ 800$ unlocked. Ouch .

The One S got my vote. Considering that the One X is going for $800 off contract I would be surprised if the One S was above $600, and if you can afford to pay the extra cash it's definitely worth it because of Krait.

If you aren't absolutely dying for a new phone right away, try to hold out until June. I don't think either the GN or S2 are worth that kind of money at this stage. If you listen to music and care at all about audio quality, the Yamaha chips on both the GN + S2 are pretty terrible. I love my S2 for everything but the audio quality =(

Do you know how quickly India typically gets new models? Is it as gimped as the US where they are typically months behind with launches + upgrades? I assume that since you are in Asia as well that it shouldn't be too bad, but just wanted to make sure!

The store's offered me a refund so while I was at it , thought what the heck , couldn't hurt.
Going to sit on this cash for a bit , lets hope that the one S launches at ~ 600$ here ( not probable -- the oneX is for 900$ right now).. If it does, I think we have a winner!

@Velathawen -- Well , phones release at exorbitant prices here. And stock is always sparse following launch. So prices stay up. The moto Atrix 2 is the ONLY phone in a LONG long time to ( and I'd like to emphasize long agin, maybe forever) launch at its international RRP. 23K here coverts to about 480$ close to the 450$ asking price abroad.

And given that Samsung is now selling substandard I9100Gs and N-7007 models here, I'm not too keen on Samsung as a brand anymore. Good phones, shabby updates, shabby build quality ( barring my previous Wave 1 ) and *blah* customer service. Not that others are any better. HTC, Moto , RIM, they're all in the same boat here.

I absolutely loved the Wolfson audio chip on my old Wave. Good stereo separation, good crosstalk, high SnR, GOOD output levels and all, hell , it was perfect. Got rid of the phone a month back and my new phone died, so I'm in the market. I could always make do with a 20$ phone in the meanwhile.

If only someone cloned the Wave and put Android on it . I fail to see why Samsung can't see the $$ in it ?? Profit ?

Most of our newer phones retail at 5500 HKD so ~710 USD if you buy them on their own so I can definitely feel your pain. Mind you this is pricing for official releases, and not grey market products that get marked up prior to official release. It's only when you commit to different contracts that they rebate portions of the phone cost back to you over the life of the contract. Admittedly, the plans here are much cheaper than most other places, so I guess it works out.

If you are simply looking for a new phone without a new contract, have you considered importing a phone from overseas? Even if you pay it up in shipping costs, I would still wager that you could save a decent chunk of money. The trade off is obviously the lack of warranty if something does indeed go wrong.

About the lumpsum, I'm not even earning any ( study years ) and the pinch is bad !

Now we're talking smile.gif Well, I was thinking about it , but what phones really have the lowest return rates ?? Iphones ? And then I'm stuck :/ Are you aware of any company that provides international warranty servicing ? Cause if its android, I bet its bound to break at some point.

Furthermore, I suppose I could pay one of my friends to pay out the rest of a contract while he still gets to use the SIM and the plan. If I goof things up, well, international shipping will be a whole lot better than no warranty at all ?

Your take ?
