HP is still a bad brand?

Thread Starter
I'm hearing people on the internet not recommending HP laptops. When I first heard this I thought this only applied to old HP laptops back when cooling and heat really were an issue. But now a lot of people still think HP notebooks are nothing but trouble.

I own a Pavilion dv7 with an A8 and 6750m for a few months and it's going well. I opened it up, examined the insides, replaced the stock paste with some Arctic Silver, and overclocked the apu and gpu. Both go at max temps about 80 C.

I don't know what those people are freaking out about. I've heard mostly heating problems, and I've heard that the physical build can deteriorate after or year or iuno.

Those people may be right about old HP laptops but companies can improve the quality of their products. A friend's old laptop that doesn't work anymore was an HP. Coincidence?

What do you think about HP?

Cousin owned an HP laptop idk the model prolly around 2 years old though. After about a year it died. Apparently it was common with that model that the motherboard on board graphics or something idr would over heat and screw up the solder points. Kinda like the PS3 common fix was oven or heat gun.

hardware does fail sooner or later, in my opinion about laptop i only look at specs/performance, everything else falls under how well do you take care of it, i've seen people tossing apple laptops, dell laptops, HP laptops as they don't care and eventually what ever its brand is, it eventually fails.

back to the subject "HP" yes i do agree that a while ago (maybe till now) HP laptops might be having more trouble than others but mostly i'd blame it on the people who do not take care of their products and yet claim that the company is trash.

i do think New HP laptops are as good as others but maybe not the older ones smile.gif

again that was my opinion about HP laptops i hope it helped though smile.gif

I think they charge too much for 'premium' laptops that are poorly constructed, they have no major stake in the gaming world so they are irrelevant for the most part, they bought Palm for no reason, their products come chock full of bloatware and they break their own PCs with updates.....the only thing good they have going for them now are printers and enterprise support

My Dad had went through 3 different HP mobos in a few year because each time the north bridge heat sink popped off (He had a 3 year warranty so he just got a new mobo each time... The heat sink design wasn't exactly the same on each one either). All around they seemed pretty cheaply made. I'd go for an ASUS as far as laptops go.

there is few good laptop lines left now, dell has specific xps models, acer has the timelineX but beyond that the rest they offer aren't good.
needle in a haystack situation more or less.
