I'm also sick and tired of gamers saying its an insta-fail without seeing ANY games or anything. Such short minded foolish people, go waste your money if you want, and enjoy the eye candy. But personally, I want a game that I don't wanna put down after 5 to 8 hours, or a game thats useless beyond a short gaming session.
Seriously, I don't remember many games from Atari to the N64 that I couldn't sit down a play more than once. Yet since the PS2 onward, there have been many, many games, I get a single session out of... $60 for a one time play... very worth it. If a game can't be played for at least 2 months, I won't buy it, simple as that. That might be a little short sighted on my own part, as there are some great games that don't really have much replayability. But I have a small wallet for games, so when its time to buy one, I need to make a very good choice.
$60 titles need gameplay first and lots and lots of play-time.
Anything that can be beat in a single session with almost no reason to come back and replay can wait till it hits the under $10 bargain bin, as thats all the game was worth to me on launch. (unlockables are good extras, but getting a few new guns and stuff is not good enough to replay a game multiple times for, and gamerscores and such nonsense is a gimmick to trick people into playing a game they no longer like, to try to get some ego boosting).
I'm a gamer and I want gameplay over eye candy 11 times out of 10.

100% agreed!

Nice post!

Don't worry, Xenos aka R500 is very similar, if not better than the R580 aka, x1950XT.

The OP source is just trying to get more views with a cheap attempt to get ad revenue.

This, don't forget optimization and my 4850 still rocking games at 1080p. biggrin.gif

I mostly agree with you, but there are some games that strive for realism. Things like flight sims, war games, sports games, etc. Some customers are looking for that realism, and those are the type of gamers that probably don't own a Wii, and probably won't even consider the Wii U. Someone like myself will just own multiple consoles and a PC, and play each game on the platform I find it to be the best on, but many consumers just want a single console that will play all the games they like.

Nobody cares that if they did use a 4850 it'd be the most powerful gpu used in a console to date, and would still be a bit faster then the rumored gpu for the xbox 720 that isn't due out for some time still.

I get what your saying, and I understand. I should be a little more clear with my rants tongue.gif

What I mean is, if eye candy is the only feature of a game, or the big feature of the game, its simply not worth my time. Even when it comes to sims and stuff where the looks can really make the game shine, its its not polished enough gameplay-wise, it will be a fail to me.

In a nutshell what I'm saying is this: Good gameplay with good looks is fine, but good looks with bad gameplay is a fail. Yet on the other hand, a game can look 80's but still play like a golden title.

Game dev's simply need to look at story/plot and gameplay first, and focus on looks last. Sadly, its painfully obvious that a rough design of many games is made, with the modelling and textures being the biggest focus, then finding a way to tie together the major parts of the game and try to make the story "good enough" to keep people interested, or at least give a point to what your doing.

And me trying to clarify my rant with a quick comment results in another rant. Yay me!

It's a Wii, I could care less that they didn't put a 7970 in it. I still won't be buying it until I have some time to more fully enjoy some of the games I have for the original Wii. The R700 should be enough for the kind of games they will be making on the Wii.

If it does turn out to be a 48xx Radeon, it will be as fast or a bit faster than the rumored 6670/7670 in the next PS/XBox.

I could care less about what Nintendo does anymore in terms of hardware. Expectations for competition from camp N have dwindled since the Game Cube which wasn't a bad system within itself but set the path for where Nintendo wanted to go for the next 10 years. I'm quite content knowing that they are at least going to step the graphics up and give us an even smoother looking Mario s-scroller.
Nintendo skipped a hardware generation because they saw (after the last two generations of "keeping up with the Joneses") that powerful hardware was getting them no-where and development costs were spiking (while adding little value), so they focused on their strong points instead of trying to compete in an increasingly high risk game.
Guess what? It worked.
Now, why should they do anything differently?

Edit: I would love it as much as anyone else if Nintendo had top of the line hardware, but ultimately I still prefer to see them safely running their business of making great games than taking huge risks that could put them under.
(And no, I do not think that SEGA is making better games after losing their hardware division.)

Why does any of this matter, it's Nintendo..

It like discussing a barbie-doll, or any other toy for children. Nintendo platform is about cutsie marketing, not about hardware (or even gaming). Sell cheap stuff, so cheap people can pretend their buying up what everyone else is, because their commercials suggest everyone sits in their living room with grandma and a numchuck..

Wii U will be about as powerful as a modern cell phone in 2014..
