How is it that no one will even begin to consider how powerful a DEDICATED 9800GTX level GPU would be in a console?

The 6670 isn't that much better in the new Xbox or whatever is in the new PlayStation. Seriously people, that would be plenty for whatever a gamer would want. rolleyes.gif

Might I remind you that an Nvidia G70-level GPU is powering the 360 as I speak... and it can produce the graphics it does with that? Imagine you give it a 9800GTX, something that's three times as powerful, and play the same games. See if you can find any lag.

Just sayin'. Not a bad move for Nintendo really. Most of the games they employ don't really require that much horsepower. tongue.gif Sorry if you can't hit over 9000 fps on the new Super Smash Bros. or the new Lego *insert name here* game... >.>

It wasn't that the Wii needed a better GPU as it needed a better CPU. On that note as well... why not just slap in a ULV Core i7 into one of these things? Problem solved. tongue.gif

It is "Very Low" range.

When it launched the 4850 was upper mid-range. There were far more cards that performed worse than it than cards that performed better than it at launch time. It was roughly on par with the first version of the gtx260.

Remember how Crysis looked nothing like that?
It's like that.

Can you post some proof? I have not seen anything that you are claiming. I have seen those Zelda tech demos on the Wii U and they are real-time changing lighting and what not, doesn't look like PS3 pre-rendered stuff to me?

No. It was equal to the GTS 250.

The 4870 was equal to the GTX 260.

You do know that if it is based on the higher end 4xxx cards, it will be on par or better than the rumored 6670 in the next xbox? Even if it wasn't, Nintendo is all about the actual game and story. Not everyone that plays Wii/Gamecube, etc are kids/grandparent, etc. I'm a single 33 year old man without kids and I loved some of Wii games. As long as they keep on pumping out first rate story/gameplay driven games, I and many others will buy them, graphics be damned.
Edit: Most of what I said wasn't directed solely at you btw. What I said came off as kind of harsh, but I didn't intend to be.

It's more about motion controls than anything else, but I'm not supporting a console that can't even keep up with modern standards. As far as hardware goes anyway... I mean I understand consoles won't have PC hardware, but a 4000 series GPU equivalent just seems lazy to me. They couldn't at least step up to 5000 series? At least 5870s are still somewhat respectable these days.

And if you're 33 and enjoying the Wii... well, maybe you can do that. I can't though. I didn't like any of its games. They were all ruined by the stupid motion controls. From the sound of it, WiiU won't be much different. The lowest tech of the 3, still using motion controls and other gimmicks... bleh, I'm probably skipping on consoles altogether next gen.

A 9800GTX is basically an 8800GTS 512, which is only about a couple of years newer than the Xbox 360. Sure it would look great compared to the current Xbox, but it would still be 5+ years old, and the next Xbox will need to last until at least 2018. Can you imagine using a 9800GTX in 2018? I honestly feel the next Xbox (if they go with AMD) will have something on part to mid-range 7xxx series GPU. Remember, this console doesn't even have its final hardware yet, that is not likely to even happen for another 5-6 months, and then it has until the end of 2013 until it hits shelves. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a console would have a mid-range, modified, 7xxx series GPU 18 months from now.

I had a 4850 1gb before my 580. It was great! I could play everything I wanted to at high/medium with no AA on 1080. Give that power to a console, and you can still get some decent looking visuals. Graphics has never mattered as much for Nintendo. Pokemon is about as simple of a game as it can get, yet it is perfect. Looks like butt, it's hours and hours of fun though.

Nintendo understands their stance in the industry.
