Hmm,, means I have to wait less to see how this thing turns out.

wheee.gif That will make my next Monday nice. Although, I'm rather concerned about the performance of the chip because it doesn't seem to perform very well.

I hope it does well. I'll be there for the tock... I'm stickin' to this rig for a minute.

I can't wait to see what the OEMs do with Ultrabooks, too. Ivy + HD4000 would be a decent pairing... especially if it came with a Thunderbolt connection. Where's that GUS II, MSI!?

Side-note:
Ivy has made strides in areas that may be less important to enthusiasts (Lower power consumption, smaller process, stronger graphics, additional features)... That doesn't make it a failure of a launch... If anything, it's a very successful tick.
Agreed - except at the power consumption. I don't know enough to say it's completely wrong, but didn't they bump it back up to 95 just like sandy?

As an AMD fanboy, I hope this is the case cause it'll maybe give AMD a chance to catch up with Piledriver. If they can get PD up to par, we could have a competitive processor market again. That's always good for us enthusiasts.

I'm waiting this one out for sure - was going to buy on launch but it seems it isn't going to be worth it to grab right away. I have been using Intel for so long now I would like to go back to AMD if piledriver is good. Also I like how their mobos and cpus cost less. That is always good for a student. biggrin.gif

Ivy Bridge is part of Intel's Tick phase of their Tick-Tock development scheme.

An equivalent TDP does not necessarily imply that power consumption will be equal. Most of the information I've seen thus far leads me to believe that Ivy will use a good chunk less power than SB (While bringing some platform improvements). My theory is that Ivy has been bumped to a 95w designation to ensure that OEMs plan their heatsink implementation accordingly. But that's just my opinion, we'll have more information in the very near future.

Depends on who you ask.

Basically Ivy is about 7% faster clock per clock. However, Sandy can overclock a little further.

So, stock, yeah it'll definitely be an improvement.
