Windows Phone is a Great platform and it has a huge potential, the question is if we will be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8 "Apollo"

Right now the Marketplace should have around 90,000 to 100,000 applications and it is growing fast,in my case it has all the applications i need except Viber that is in development and wiull also be released this month.

Skype is available right now,but as a Beta application.

Mango is the current release of Windows Phone (7.5) Tango is the next major upgrade (like Mango was) If Skype is coming this month (Tango is too ;D) Skype is probably going to be bundled in with Tango.

Apollo will be the biggest upgrade to Windows Phone as it will be called Windows Phone 8.

EDIT: *ALL* Windows Phones will upgrade to Apollo (Windows Phone 8)

What source do you have for the Win Phone 8 upgrade statement? The evangelist has recanted his statement and Microsoft has yet to announce one way or the other.

Windows Phone 8 has no official release date, but the aim is late 2012
Second-gen devices (like the Nokia Lumia 800 or HTC Titan) will receive the update
First-gen devices (like the Samsung Focus or HTC HD7) will receive the update but new features may not be compatible with the old hardware

That's no more official than the other 3 or 4 sources saying yes and no. Until anything is heard from Microsoft officially there is no statement.

Well if you want to play it that way, you are correct, Microsoft has not released an official statement regarding the Apollo update deployment to first generation Windows Phones.

So it's the same way that of of Apple's latest updates had multi-tasking and backgrounds disabled on the iPhone 3G.

Still great to know that my Focus will get WP8, hopefully. I would be happy with just Skype Voice Chat.

So I just received my first WP today through Microsoft's Smoked By Windows Phone challenge ordeal (traded in my G1..err I mean..lost my G1) and I must say..I hate this OS right now. The first thing i tried doing with it was putting music on it and lo and behold, just like iOS devices there is no usb mass storage option out of the box I had to download a tool off of XDA to do it. While I'm fine with that I think it's still quite an archaic way of doing things on the part of microsoft and forcing us to use Zune if you want to fully utilize this device. That being said I've decided to give the device a chance for about a month or so and put aside the myTouch 4g for just a little while until I can fully comprehend what I can do with this device.

Have you tried the Zune software? it is actually really nice.

As for the OS, just remember that this isn't an Android device and it isn't an iOS device. It is a WP7 device. It takes a completely different approach from the others, however. While on those platforms you go to an app and then do what you will there, WP7 has you go to what you want to do and perhaps access an app at that time. For example, if you want to listen to music or watch videos you can go to the Music & Videos app and it will have your music and videos that you've synced right along side any relevant apps inside. So all your media is in the same spot. That's just one example but good luck and give it a chance!
