The reason is this: people don't like big changes. Apple's iPhone initiated the orderly app icon interface, with the primary 4 apps at the bottom. Android closely followed the same formula, with their own twist. Most people who use smartphones today probably used the iPhone before Android became big--some may have wanted to change into a new phone but by keeping that familiar interface, so they won't have to re-learn everything, which is why Microsoft's smartphone is unpopular -- it's too alien for the majority of people. Also, there aren't as many developers in Microsoft's app store as there are in Google Play and the Apple App Store. Their marketing was also weak.

There is also Documents To Go, which supports .doc/x. And what exactly do you control on your Xbox with WP7? Menu selections and movie playback?

You can do the same with Office web app live... It's called coauthoring. Besides, Office web app is superior over all thanks to Excel, deeper Word processing capabilities, and look & feel(If you're used to using the desktop packages, the web app will be a lot more familiar and easier to use)

Anyway, Office still more powerful and popular as a desktop application.

IE9 is using Trident 5.0 which means its compatible with CSS3, SVG, and HTML5:

Trident 5.0 most notably includes SVG, HTML5, CSS 3, and a new JIT compilation accelerated JavaScript engine named Chakra. It only seems fitting that we test everything and see whether IE 9 on WP7.5 is just as competent as the desktop version. I came away very impressed with how things turned out.

Source

I hardly see how this matters to the end-user anyway, if they're enjoying it.

Sprint and Verizon each only have a single first generation piece of hardware and Microsoft cannot hope to gain any appreciable market share with such lame carrier support. It’s been a few months since WP 7.5 was launched and we don’t even hear rumors of Sprint or Verizon getting any updated hardware. How can you have the largest carrier in the U.S. with a single product that is over a year old and promote your OS as something people should buy?

This is one of the biggest reasons why I have yet to consider getting a Windows Phone. Being with Verizon, I've had almost no selection of Windows Phones to choose from so I've stayed with Android and got a Rezound. I still enjoy using Android and I have yet to find major faults with the HTC Rezound, however, I do wish to see Verizon bring some Windows phones to the table.

Up until I began migrating all my music to my smartphone, I had my Zune HD on me all the time and loved the interface (especially over iOS). Since the Windows Phone's operating system is based off the Zune HD's OS, I'm fairly certain that I would have a tough time choosing between either Android or the Windows platform. Alas, at the end of the day Verizon gives me little offerings for the Windows platform so I stick with Android.

I hate the look of WP7, so it's automatically ruled out for me. Aside from that, I'm well rooted into iOS with many purchased app's that I would lose, a loaded iTunes with 4000 songs. I have no reason to switch OS's because I see nothing compelling me to go through the work of switching.

A phone is only as good as it's carrier.

As it stands, Sprint has been selling 4G phones for 18 month but still doesn't offer/have 4g... same with other carriers.

Verizon is the ONLY carrier in US with a 4G network.. so when they carry the new Wondow Phone you will see people buy them. There is no point in buying a 4g phone when the carrier doesn't support it. (Ie: AT&T).

I know a dozen people who are moving to Verizon the moment they offer a Win phone. Contract or not... (me included).

Meh. Honestly, I would hands-down go with an iPhone if I was forced to buy a phone on contract, as I can't stand phones bigger than 4", and an optical trackball is pretty much a necessity (how else do you edit an email? Hope you magically place the cursor in the right spot by touch?). But, I just got a Droid Incredible for about $80 used, more than fast enough for my purposes. Why would people go in on a 2-year contract for a Windows phone, when it's hard to tell if it'll even be "in" in 2 years? I don't think anyone wants the "Me too" phone, nor is Windows "cool" like Android or iOS (most college students have Macbooks).

Oh, and that picture of the Windows Phone in the ZDNet post? Those tiles look quite obnoxious- it's just as easy to put an icon with the number of missed calls/texts/emails in the notification bar and takes 5% of the space. No, I don't need a huge tile to tell me that I have a missed call, nor do I need 2 other tiles to tell me how many emails or texts I have. Perhaps WP7 is good in some sort of utilitarian sense of the word, but that "business" feel is a big part of what led to Blackberry's demise.

Who are you with for your contract? Every Canadian Carrier I know of allow you to upgrade when you in your plan. Most smart phones have a 2 year period so once you've had the phone for 2 years, you can upgrade your hardware for the nice 3-year contract price if you re-sign for another 3 years starting from that day.

Bell doesn't have any windows phones. I'd have made that jump if they did, but sadly, I can't. Gotta wait for my contract to expire than I'm leaving bell forever!!

Bell has Windows phones, I just bought my mom the HTC HD7. It's an amazing phone.
